Applying to Jeff State CC night/weekend program

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi All!

Anyone else applying to the part time program at JSCC? I think the apps have to be in by may 12th and the cutoff is around 185. I'm finishing my last prereq this summer (microbiology) and will be applying with 203 points and a 4.0 GPA. I'm hopeful!

I sent mine off last night. Hopefully my days as a Colombian drug lord won't come back to haunt me... (Joke! Should be all clear lol)

lol I know right!

I wonder if people actually waste their time busting their butts to get accepted, knowing about all of the checks/screening, and just think "well maybe that one itsy bitsy felony won't show up..." Or "well, maybe just a LITTLE drugs won't show up..."

Speaking from someone in the 6th semester, summer classes are a you-know-what. And don't be scared of the Med-Surg instructor. He isn't as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

Yeah summer classes seem intense and fast paced. Really? He's not that bad? I heard the class was crying after they received the first test back. Any truth to that?

I don't recall anyone crying. He is not as bad as everyone says. He is gruff, but he is knowledgable. Read, don't ask the same questions 6 times in a row, be prepared, and MedSurg should be fine. I got an A in his class.

Oh wow!! You got an A? Any tips on how to prepare for his tests? Does he test much different from the teacher I have now? I heard he uses a different book to lecture from and won't tell anyone what it is, any truth to that?

You guys will be using a different book than the one we had last fall. He really likes it, so he will probably use that one for the lectures. You can pm me if you like-- I'm at work right now and need this job until I pass NCLEX, so I can't spend too much time on this site. :sneaky:

I was just looking at the schedule for the first semester and I originally thought that I would be going to class on Sat from 8-11 but now it is showing tues and thurs 5:30-8:30... can anyone tell me if we have class/lab on Sat the first semester?

No class on Saturdays. You will only have it Tuesday and Thursday. :)

That's great! I looked back at last fall's schedule and it shows the lab on Sat from 8-11 (health assessment). Did they change it starting this year?

Some have said that it's on the schedule, but they don't actually meet that day. I doubt we'll find out until the first day of class

There's a FB group by the way, if you're interested! There's a link to it on the fall 2014 hopefuls thread
