Applying to FNU - Any advice?

Published

I am seeking advice, tips, and hearing about your experiences in applying to Frontier Nursing University. If you chose a school other than FNU, which school did you utilize and why? I'm set on FNU but I'm open to hearing other's reasons for the schools that they chose. Thanks!

Specializes in Hospice, ER.

Hello! I applied to FNU in October, was accepted, and just attended Frontier Bound a couple of weeks ago. I had emailed an admissions advisor many times throughout my application process and I received nothing but prompt, helpful replies. I have seven years of nursing experience in ED and hospice, no L&D experience; high GPAs, good references. I used a charge nurse, our ED medical director, and a CNM who was my OB clinical instructor and my potential midwifery preceptor as my references. I was notified of my acceptance about four weeks after the application deadline. It was a little challenging to find flights that got into Lexington at the necessary times since I'm coming from the west coast, but other than that planning for Frontier Bound was pretty straightforward. Despite my anxiety, Frontier Bound was completely amazing and I wish I could go back! FNU is all about forming a supportive community among students and faculty, and I definitely left with a sense of friendship and community. They do a great job of making sure you form bonds with fellow classmates, but it doesn't feel forced at all. I start classes in a next month so I can't speak to that side of things yet.

Hope that was somewhat helpful for you. Do you have any specific questions about the application process or about the school that I can maybe answer for you?

I just applied today. Interested in what others think as well

Hello! FNU is also my destination! I'm just at the end of nursing school getting my RN, I graduate next Friday! I'm enrolled for my BSN already, and plan to work my way through that so that I can apply to FNU for the WHNP/CNM program. I'm also a 33 year old mom of 3 kiddos, and have been married to my hubby for over 14 years now. My goal is to be in the CNM program, and hopefully close to graduating, by the time I'm 40. If I'm not in it and have started it by 40, I don't think I will do it. I'm currently looking into a L&D job and a Mother/Baby job at one of our local hospitals.

I am on a very similar path. I'm still not sure yet if I want to work for a few years first in L&D or keep going.
