best advice for a phone interview
I am a new grad and applying for jobs. I have a phone interview on Wednesday and was wondering if any of you have some good tips for the phone interview? What exactly are they wanting to hear for this screening so I can get an in person interview? My other interviews have all been in person. Thanks!

Horrifying medical quack info on the Internet
It seems like chiropractors are more likely to fall into the quack category. I've been to some good ones, but I have also seen some quacks who try to sell you hundreds of dollars worth of supplements, none of which actually work, and are severely anti-vaxxing. Ugh

Horrifying medical quack info on the Internet
While I was a postpartum CNA, I had a patient bring in a massive red onion and slice it open in their room to "keep the baby clean." OMG it smelled so bad and no one took them serious.

time from graduation to job offer
Wow that's amazing.

time from graduation to job offer
I am just curious how long it took you from graduation as a new grad until you had a job offer. I am asking specifically for those of us who were not offered a job or a job was not available during our preceptorship. I had an amazing preceptorship BUT there weren't any positions available at the time. I know this can take months. Thanks for the feedback.

New Grad dilemma: WWYD?
I worked in the hospital for over 6 years. I left during nursing school. I worked postpartum. I have a huge network of people/nurses in L&D. The 4 months is to wait for the new grad residency program. I realize I didn't give enough info in the post. Anyway, in order to qualify for the new grad program, you cannot have worked even one day as an RN. Just a difficult decision bc we need the $ but the new grad program sets me up for great future success in the hospital, no matter where I start out. Just sayin'

New Grad dilemma: WWYD?
I am a new grad. My DREAM job is in labor and delivery. I am willing to work in any area of nursing in the hospital tho, to get experience and work my way into L&D. The problem is my family cannot go 4 more months without a second income so I have been offered a job in peds home health. This is NOT even close to what I want to do, but it pays well. And the patients are pretty acute so I would get good experience (I think). Anyway, the dilemma is do I take this job bc we need the money, even though it isn't want I want to do, OR do I wait for a better hospital job to come along...basically I am worried that if I do home health that I will be trapped so to speak and won't ever get back into the hospital where I want to be. Thanks for your guidance! (I am not at all saying there is anything wrong with home health--it just isn't what I want to do.)

Multiple IV's for one student, none for the rest... Is this usual during clinical?
I haven't read all the comments, but I did see a few people suggest that you need to seek out the skills you are wanting to perform. I was assertive with the nurses who precepted me and I was able to get several opportunities to do those skills while other students did not. Sometimes it was the luck of the draw: IV infiltrated, IV in the AC that needed replaced, and patients who were willing to allow a student to start an IV on them. Also, you or the clinical faculty who is overseeing all of you can mention to the charge nurse that she or he has students who would like opportunities to do certain skills and they can keep an eye out for it. This has helped me get practice several times.

Math Help
I'm not great with med calc but I feel like there is information missing. I use dimensional analysis and when I set it up we are missing the order. We know what we HAVE but we don't know what to give...this is making the mcg/kg difficult to calculate.

Simulation Woes and Anxiety Nursing Student
Most simulations do not have a grading rubric or list because it is a learning environment. You should be getting a "report" of some kind prior and then start with your ABCs, scene surveillance, head to toe, focused and so on. You should be able to take a nurse brain in with you to help as far as a list goes or something to follow because that is realistic for the real world. Also, in sim and comps you need to voice everything. The instructors cannot hear what you are thinking if you don't say it. That is why you can voice when you break sterile technique, say what you would do to correct the error, and keep going. If you don't voice it, you fail, even if you know what you would do. Maybe you can just start practicing at home where you voice out what you're doing, step by step. It also helps you stay organized with your time because we do not get an hour to spend with each patient. Hope this helps.
