Let me start by saying. I absolutely LOVE my job. I'm a private duty nurse in pediatric home health. I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity to work with kids. My dilemma is, being a new grad was this the best decision for me as far as getting experience and using my skills? My train of thought in the beginning was this will be a great way to get experience and learn to work independently. Most of the little kiddos I take care of have trachs and vents. So I'm getting experience in that aspect, but something tells me I'm missing out. On what I'm not sure. I'm not one of those nurses who's dying to work in the hospital. I've done that as a tech for a while and I've seen the level of stress it can cause nurses. With that being said I'm not totally against it either. I just want to be able to work in the nicu or picu when I do decide to get back into that setting. I guess I'm just sorta venting to you guys and just want to hear what some of you have to say about this situation. I'm very happy with what I'm doing. I'm just afraid of wasting my skills so early in my career.

Sooo I'm sort of confused on what I want to go back to school for. I know that I want to become a NP, and I know that I want to work in women's health but I also love pediatrics. I just started working as a Peds PDN and absolutely love it, just like I thought I would. But I know I would also love working in a birthing center or women's clinic. My question is what would be the better option: Go to school for my NP and get certified in both Women's Health AND Pediatrics. Or just become a FNP?? All these options make me love nursing even more....but my head hurts trying to figure out the best road to take to get where I want to be!!! LOL

Great advice! I'm in almost the same exact situation. I just got my first ever RN position in pediatrics (my dream also). It is possible new grads!! Follow these tips and others on here about interviews, resumes and cover letters, and you'll do great!!!

It is very disappointing when u have to take the test multiple times but it is possible that you will pass. So don't give up on yourself. You may have done better than you think this time around....stay positive. How soon can u see results in ur state. I know in Ohio you can get on the board of nursing website and attempt to verify you license and if it pops up then u obviously passed because u have an active license

Getting the extra requirements for one would be the best bet. But which one should I begin with? I'm guessing NP and then get the extras for CNM

I decided when I was 15, my sophomore year in high school. My favorite aunt was a nurse and I loved all her cute scrubs!! Lol later on after I learned more I fell in love with nursing

I've been doing some research into RN-MSN programs and I'm starting to get overwhelmed with the information out there. . My goal is to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and a NP in woman's health. My question is: What is the best direction to go as far as schooling to accomplish this? Lol this maybe a very simply answer but I just need some clarification from my fellow nurses who've been there and have accomplished this....

I took it three times and passed the 3rd time just recently. I credit majority of my success to ATI's virtual tutor program. Also I downloaded a review book from iTunes called NCLEX Made Simple and read over a "study guide" I found on here. The book from iTunes gives you an outline of stuff you should remember and the study guide points out important info with mneumonics to help you remember things. If you want i can email a copy of the review sheet.
