Applying to Direct-Entry MSN Boston Programs for 2015

Hey everyone,

I just began collecting information for applications to the direct-entry programs at MGH, Northeastern, Simmons, and UMass Med. I will be applying at the end of this year for matriculation in 2015 for FNP track.

I'm also interested in gauging the strength of my application, so here's a little about myself.

I'm 23 years old and live in MA. I attended Plymouth State University where I received a BS in psychology. I originally thought I would go into PA but changed my decision due to PA's lack of intimacy with the patient (counseling, health education). I had a 3.57 overall GPA with a 4.0 in prereqs. I currently volunteer as an EMT with about 300 hours (6 months) under my belt. I'm also an LNA but not currently practicing (only worked for a month but decided to focus on EMT and online prereq. courses). I'm expecting to take the GREs this summer and in the process of gathering LORs. I just finished a couple of my statements of intent. My top school is MGH but I'm still waiting to attend information sessions at Simmons and UMass Med.

Is anyone else applying to these schools? I'd love to hear your story... :D

Yes!!! I got that too! I guess there's no interview for MGH institute?

Yup! I asked them a while ago. One less interview to worry about...but dang I hope they like my statement!

Oh, I just found this. I applied to UMass Med... as of now it's tied with Emory for my #1 school. I really, really like UMass' program!! I'm GEP-DNP FNP :)

I wish the weeks would go by more quickly!!

Did anyone use Portage Learning courses for their Prereq's? They offer a Chemistry, I am just not sure if that counts for both Chem's....waiting for a call back from them.

Did you end up using Portage? I registered for an accelerated A&P II in the spring but now I'm considering Portage instead. I'd rather work on it now to kill time until the admissions decisions come through!

I got rejected from MGH even though I got accepted to Emory and Columbia....not sure how that happens haha. Did anyone hear good news?

Ha! I was thinking that before I left work: what if I got into Columbia, Rochester and but NOT my local safety school?

I did get into MGH. But no scholarship was mentioned. So the other schools I've been accepted to are not only better programs, but have a greater capacity to provide aid/scholarships. Kinda bummed - I'd decided I would consider MGH if they offered a solid scholarship. Looks like I'll be leaving Boston.

Haha I'm not in the area though I'm from California so I don't know if that makes a difference. But they said in the rejection letter that some people apply multiple times to the program until they get in which I thought was weird.

@ zoiKers. I was accepted at MGH for ABSN program! Congrats on Emory and Columbia; I've seen your posts in the Emory thread! Sometimes we get rejected by schools by surprise! In past threads of MGH ABSN programs, there have been people who applied twice to get in. Does Columbia give a BSN/RN portion before the NP portion of the program?

Columbia does the BSN/MSN thing. I'm looking forward to their info day next month to find out more!

has anyone heard back from northeastern? I haven't gotten word either way and they said early Feb. not sure if its because of the weather or what...

I have not heard back I applied there too! My guess is just we're going to get a random e-mail saying to check our decision. Lol.

so weird! I thought they did interviews though?
