So I am applying for the Controlled Substance license and the DEA. On the application, it states:
"If applying for schedule II prescriptive authority, submit an official transcript with school seal affixed to document and completion of 45 graduate hours in pharmacology"
Does this mean that I have to take extra pharmacology Continuing Education credit hours? Because at Chamberlain College of Nursing we only had one pharmacology course, which was 3 credit hours. I'm confused as to what this means. My employer does require me to prescribe Schedule 2 medications.

Hmmm...I'm in IL but have been licensed as an APN since 2006. I know that now since we rec'd class II Rx status, we have to have extra pharm CME.
I looked on the ISAPN site (IL Society of Adv Practice Nurses) and couldn't find anything - best bet (and I'm sorry to say this) but is to contact IDPFR.

It's contact hours, not semester or credit hours. I.e. 50 minute classroom hours
From the instructions: Evidence of completion of at least 45 graduate contact hours in pharmacology must be submitted to obtain Schedule II prescriptive authority

Thank you for responding. I did contact them and they said that somehow my 3 credit hours in school would qualify for 45 graduate "contact" hours.
You are right, I didn't know contact hours were different from credit hours. Thank you.
Now when you renew you will need pharm CME but that is easy to get in a five year period
