I'm in the process of moving from Florida to the New York City area and just mailed off my application for licensure in NY.
I'm just concerned or whether I should start applying for jobs now or wait till I'm license? I'm just worried that I'll get licensed then it'll take me another 2-3 months to get employed. BTW I have a 3+ years experience in labor and delivery and some pediatrics.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Healthcare employers (large employers, at least) are v. familiar with dealing with applicants who don't have a local license. I've been in that situation (applying for jobs in a new state before I'm licensed) a few times over the years, and no potential employers batted an eye. I would start looking for jobs ASAP.
Best wishes!

Thank you so much! Will start this week!

Does anyone know on average how long it takes to get licensed in NY by reciprocity? It hasn't been a month yet but I do see they cashed my money order.
And are they pretty good at being reached by telephone? Just want to make sure there's no hold up or additional documents they may need.

I moved to NY from MN 3 years ago & I think it took 1-2 months for me to get my NY license (applied in April/May & got license end of June 2008)....I ended up getting a job @ Mount Sinai Medical Center in L&D....after LOVING L&D for 4 years in MN, I HATED it @ Mount Sinai-- I do not recommend working in their L&D-- huge teaching facility & very unfriendly toward natural childbirth...RN's couldn't even do cervical exams there....I was so unhappy I transferred to the ICU a year after I moved to NY & now I LOVE it;) That said, definitely start applying now....and let me know if you need any advice on WHERE to apply for L&D jobs...I've networked a bit & can give you a bit of feedback in that regard!
