Has anyone applied to OHSU or Seattle University Grad Entry MSN programs and heard yet whether or not you got an interview? I was expecting to hear sometime in the past week and haven't. It's driving me crazy!! OHSU sent me an email a while back saying to be available Feb. 5-6 in case I did get an interview, so there's not much time left to hear...

SeattleKate.. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I rarely go on this. I called Sabrina from the School of Nursing and she told me via phone. And I also received a letter of acceptance.

I am so glad I got into Seattle University! I am sooo excited. I also got into my two backup schools, Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions and Pacific Lutheran University.

Seattle U! Here we come!!! I look forward to meeting you all! Yey for us!!

I still haven't gotten my letter yet either. Hopefully tomorrow....

hi,

i now have 2 weeks to decide between seattle university and pacific lutheran university's entry level msn programs. here are my pros and cons for attending each institution:

pros:

seattle university: beautiful campus close to downtown seattle and most of the major medical centers in seattle; great state of the art nursing lab; well known; nursing school has a very fine reputation; on the quarter system; students pass the nclex on their initial try; jesuit tradition and sense of mission to serve the less fortunate members of society.

pacific lutheran university: pretty tree-filled campus; lots of friendly people on campus; apartments in the tacoma/puyallup area are cheaper to rent; nursing school has very fine reputation; msn classes are held in the evening and on friday so students are encouraged to work during their last 2 years; beginning students are not locked from the get-go into a certain program or track such as np or cns - one can decide on one's track after completing the initial rn classes; students pass the nclex on their initial try; lutheran tradition and mission of serving others; the admissions and nursing school staff were very approachable when i had questions prior to application.

cons:

seattle university: renting an apartment is much more expensive; students are locked into a track such as np or program development from the beginning of their studies and cannot change; the admissions and nursing school staff weren't very approachable when i had questions prior to application (while i would have preferred to make an appointment and talk on campus, i was discouraged from doing so - their preference was for handling everything by phone or email) .

pacific lutheran university: located in tacoma therefore further away from the arts and entertainment venues in seattle; program takes 3 years (rather than 2 to complete); on the semester system.

:typing wow, it was great for me to sit down at the keyboard and do this. it's a good chance to hone those decision making and critical thinking skiills that all good nurses need. i'm sure others can add to these lists of pros and cons. (these are strictly based on my personal experiences with both schools this past year)

hey, it great to have such choices!

OK. I'm ready to join the party. Finally heard back today. AND . . . I'm IN!! Woohoo! Look forward to meeting everyone this summer.

I'm so excited-my eye won't stop twitching ;-)

Seattle here I come!

Any advice on moving to Seattle? I am from the California-Bay area.

I'm so excited! Happy Dance

Hi jeomoz! Welcome to Seattle!!! I am so excited for you. My biggest tip is to bring a really good umbrella that can outlast our rainy and windy days. But lately its been really nice (the sun's been out :-)

Do you know if you're going to be moving on campus? That's a new experience for me as well... I just finished my Bachelor's Degree and will "finally" move out of my parent's nest. And I'm from the Northern part of Washington... so you and I can experience Seattle together... LOL.

My other advice is to start looking for apts now... Seattle is pretty pricey :-(

But other than that, I look forward to meeting you and good luck with everything! :yeah::wlcmghrt:

Thanks ksc2004! I've already started the apt search. I haven't looked into on-campus housing yet, but will definitely do that.

Thanks for the great welcome! I look forward to meeting at the orientation ;D

Any news on that?

Hi Jeomoz! Nope.. haven't heard about the orientation, but if I hear of anything I'll make sure to post it. What are you specializing in?

:nurse:

My specialty is Psych NP w/ Addictions focus. And yours?

I'll be specializing in Gerontology. I really enjoy that population and I feel that since our country is becoming older, GNPs will be a much needed and growing area of nursing. I contemplated between the FNP and GNP programs, and decided that becoming a GNP is the way to go. I personally feel that there will ALWAYS be people who want to take care of babies, toddlers, and moms to be... and not as many people who want to take of the geriatric population, with that said... who will take care of those individuals? I would really like to work with Dr. Feldt from our program so that I can perhaps start a GNP advocacy group, informing future nurses about the need for GNPs or Gerontological RNs.

Seattle Kate, did you get your mail yet???

This reply is super late!

But congrats to all of you who got in! =)

I am reallly looking into the APNI program at SU, FNP track.

Would you guys be able to tell me how competitive the program is? What kind of grades are they looking for?

I tried searching for it on the internet and i came up with nothing =(

Thanks so much!!
