Applied to Indiana State University for LPN to BSN?

Updated:   Published

Hello nurses, I wonder if any of you have applied to Indiana State University for the LPN to BSN online program? I sent in my application in March, and currently awaiting a response, which they say will be at the end of May. The waiting is stressful! Have any of you applied to this program? Does anybody know how competitive this program is? Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for all the details. Does the program get better? I am looking forward to starting but a bit nervous at the same time. Let me know if there's any other tips while in this program.

@Sima Desaiit is a great program! Be thinking ahead about where you plan to do your clinicals. That was the most difficult thing about the program for me.

Sorry Whitney, I did not view your post in time! How did you do on your Kaplan? Did you apply to ISU?

.

It's okay! I actually had difficulties with the proctoring site when I went to take the Kaplan in August. They tried to work with me but I ultimately missed he deadline to apply for this January. I need to look into it again and see when the next application period is.

Are you happy with the Program?

Do you or anyone else have any insight on the Kaplan for this specific program?

Thank you,

Whitney

I am trying to prepare for places I can do clinicals, but as of now, we were informed, due to the rising in the variant, clinicals will be from home doing VSIMS. Also, previously you mentioned for health assessment, we will need to record the comprehensive part but just reached out to the instructor. She informed us she does not require us to record which I was relaxed about. From how your describing the overview of the program, seems very challenging but definitely doable. Are you jumping back and forth each semester from PT to FT?

I just applied there on March 1st, I haven't heard back yet, I know they say they don't start reviewing until mid to late march, just wondering what people have experienced in wait time. How long before you heard back after submitting your application?

I thought of replying to your questions since I just recently went through the process with ISU for LPNBSN. I had applied for Spring 2022 back in July 2021- after submitting my application & transcripts. I received an email about 2-3 weeks later from Kathy (I believe that's her name) with all the classes that were transferrable and the ones that I still needed to complete from the prerequisites. Just hang in there, they have a smooth flow with the process.

Look through the contract sites first and then contact the site person to ask if you can do clinical there. You need to secure your own placement even if there is a contract already in place. As some agencies only allow their employees to do clinical. So call these agencies and ask.

Thanks @deannahamid for your advice, clinicals were especially hard to arrange due to Covid, but I was lucky to find a specialty hospital nearby who accepted me! Clinicals all done, and just have a few more credits to go to graduate. I can see the end of the tunnel!

@Whitney, I think the program is great. It is difficult to do everything online and not have peer support for studying, etc., but for me this was the only available path to BSN and I am happy I am almost there. As far as Kaplan goes, I have not had too many issues. I hear that for some the proctoring process has been difficult, maybe due to internet issues and lack of staffing due to Covid. I would suggest reaching out to ISU and let them know what happened with the Kaplan process. I know some professors are unhappy with Kaplan, and it would be good for the school to know that it is preventing potential students from applying. That is loss of income for the school/program, so they should know how it affects potential students. They may be able to offer support. Good luck in the future. I am happy to give advice and help if I can!

@Sima, I only do school part time because I work full time. I vary from 6-9 credits each semester. Sounds like they have made a lot of changes. For me, the comprehensive head-to-toe assessment had to be a seamless video completed in less than 40 minutes...then uploaded to Youtube -- pretty stressful, but good practice for sure.  There is a lot of virtual simulation throughout the program, but I had to complete three semesters of in-person clinicals locally. Again, amazing experiences, but during Covid, it was difficult to find a facility to accept students. I am grateful that portion is behind me now! Just keep on top of your deadlines, be engaged in the classes, and you will do great. You would not have gotten this far if you weren't up to it.

@stumptowngurl thank you so much for your help I appreciate it. I will reach out to ISU.

I would imagine Kaplan may have changed since you were admitted into the program, but do you or anyone else in this thread have any feedback for preparing for it etc?

Thank you,

Whitney

I had taken it on August 2021 - everything on quizlet is basically the way to go. It was literally everything on there. Don't hesitate to reach out to me.
