I attended the applicatiobn meeting yesterday. Yea it's finally over. I will probably be a nervous wreak until I hear something. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. All we had to do was fill out the application, make sure all of our documents were correct and turn it in. I should hear something in the later part of June. Good Luck to all apllying for August admissions. One more thing it wasn't as many people there as I thought it would be!
I am in need of encouragement! I have a 3.33 GPA do I have any hope? I'm told I am one the list for schoolcraft in 09, but I would really like to start WCCCD in 08! Maybe with all the new requirements I may be in luck!
The reason SillyRabbit was asking you about your GPA being from both prereqs and coreqs or from just your prereqs is because they will use your grades from your coreqs to boost your GPA if they will help.
Coreq's include:
DT 130
HSC 100
HSC 200
BIO 252
SOC 100
ENG 120
PS 101 or another class that will fill this requirement.
If you have taken any of these classes and have gotten A's it may help boost your GPA! If you need help doing this, feel free to PM me!
I just wanted to send Good Luck vibes to everyone applying for fall entry. I will attend tonight's application meeting. I've organized my documentation best I can and hope it's sufficient. I thought I was going to lose my mind, but found my High School Diploma last week! I called the high school for a copy of my actual transcripts and they said it could take weeks, so that was close.
I'll be applying with a 3.79. I keep telling myself that I should get in, but one never knows!

Wishing for the best,

To all those applying tonight good luck. For some reason, I'm having a hard time getting my clearance done on ICHAT. Did anyone else have this problem? Well since I couldn't get the clearance done in time, I will be applying at the May 30th meeting. Please post how the meeting went, how many showed up etc!!!! Again well wishes.:nuke:
Yes I was there tonight too. It went smoothly because Mr. N didn't check apps to make sure everyone had everything, she only took them and off you went. This could be a good thing and a bad thing. Anyway, there were a lot of folks there and although I was about 20 people from the end of the line, I was one of the first 30 to turn my app packet in. I wouldn't even know where to begin to guestimate how many people were actually there. More than 200 less than 400. Does that sound about right?
Good luck everyone!!!!!! I hope we all get accepted! But now the waiting game begins.....
A lot more people showed up than I expected. It makes me a little nervous since I'm borderline with my gpa (3.56). The wait is going to drive me insane. I am trying to stay positive though
Gosh Kh210sn, the good thing is we wait together huh. I am taking three classes this summer so I am hoping that will make the time go faster. I am so nervous! Trying to stay positive too!
It was definitely a full house last night.
Call me silly, but I'll be remembering what a current WCCCD nursing student told me immediately after getting accepted. As we wait for those acceptance letters, try not to focus so much on the GPA. It'll drive us mad. Instead, focus on your letter grades...doesn't make things perfect but she does have a point.
For example:
I could sit and wonder how many people also have a 3.78, how many are higher, lower, etc. Freaking out over the decimal point, remembering how many faces I saw in the auditorium. :uhoh21:
Isn't perfect, but a tad easier to deal with when thinking...I have one B and the rest are A's. There are only two scenarios beating that. All A's, OR one B in a 3-credit hour course (my B is in a 4hr course) with A's in the other four classes.
When thinking this way, you not as self-critical over that B grade!
It comes down to our being proud of ourselves for making it this far, and earning the grades necessary for an EXTREMELY competitive program!
Whoohoo - I don't know about anyone else, but I'm so glad that the application meeting is behind me!
Regards,
Teresa

Good luck to all of you. When I applied, there were over 300 people and that was two years ago. Don't sweat the GPA thing too much, and you might want to read the student nurse forum on this allnurses.
I remember those days when the 4.0 people bragged and bragged, and to be honest with you, I am about to graduate from nursing school and I got in with a 3.35. I am successful with nursing school, and it requires a lot of hard work and determination. Nursing school is tough. You do not have to have a perfect score on everything in pre req's to become a good nurse. Once in the program, you will have to work your behind off and studying becomes your life. You will breathe, eat and sleep nursing school. Some 4.0 students went down to C students, remember this..without saying anything too negative about the GPA thing, common sense far outweighs any book smart person any day. It is good to know both, but common sense is really important.
Some people can really score high grades, but in the clinical setting they are lost..you have to be able to apply both theory and common sense to your patient's care. I wish you lot's of luck on your journey, and stay busy, to keep your mind of that letter and that mail delivery person...keep your chin up and work hard once you get in. Your batch of students has one advantage over ours. The 12 credit policy, I love it. Those transfer students were taking our spots, so now the college is making our students a preference, which it should. Before, the 12 credits taken at WCCCD policy, we had all kinds of University students applying next to us, and some of them beat us out of a spot. So you have an advantage now. I wish you all the best.:nuke:

I think you have a really good chance at being an alternate. I would still apply, because you don't know what the GPA cut off will be for this semster. Is that your total GPA with Co-req's included or is that just your GPA for pre-req's. Like she said at the information meeting for alternate's to still show up for orientation, because those who don't show up will lose their spots. The cut off's for the past couple of semsmter's have been a 3.44. Good Luck:heartbeat
