Applicants to Portland/Salem Area Nursing Schools 2014

Published

I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.

A little about me:

  • I am 33, married, no kids.
  • I live in Salem and have taken the bulk of my prerequisites at Chemeketa.
  • I have been working as a Dental Assistant for 2 years and feel that it is supremely unfair that many of the OCNE schools do not count dental assisting towards their "direct patient care" discretionary points. (I went to school for a year to become a dental assistant. I have dealt with medical emergencies, bodily fluids and have had my fingers in mouths on a daily basis! I'm grumbling, I know.)
  • I have a 4.0 GPA (so far) for all of the OCNE prerequisites (My single B in one of three Chemistry classes will haunt me when I apply to Linfield)
  • I am still one term away from finishing my prerequisites for the majority of the schools to which I plan on applying
  • I don't really think that I will be lucky enough to be accepted to any of the Portland-area community colleges due to my lack of necessary discretionary points (if any of you CURRENT students have found otherwise, I would be very interested to find out what you know!)
  • I will be applying anyway, because I know that I should at least make it onto a waiting list or two and as I have seen in previous threads - they do go through their waiting lists!
  • I sincerely hope that all my hard work will pay off and that I will be accepted SOMEWHERE

Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!

Congrats jiawenbaby6! I got into the same term! Good luck to everyone else!

Congratulations everyone who has already been accepted! This is my first post. I was also accepted to Mt. Hood CC for Winter 2015. I cannot describe how happy I am that this day is finally here. This was actually my fourth year applying to nursing school- My first applying to the majority of Portland area schools plus OHSU Monmouth (thought I might have a chance with the interview but I was rejected). I am so happy I stuck with it. Retaking anatomy and physiology has sure paid off!! I was due to interview at Columbia Gorge CC this Friday but now that I am accepted to Mt. Hood I am going to cancel so hopefully someone else can get an interview. Mt. Hood is literally five minutes from my house! I didn't even expect to get in after the interview. I probably felt the least confident about it out of all the schools. Clackamas seems to have a great program and I really got a good feeling from the faculty but I think I will choose Mt. Hood if by some freak chance I am accepted to both. PCC has been great for prerequisites but I think I prefer a smaller group of students. My husband is so relieved he doesn't have to deal with my nursing school rejection blues ever again. I can't wait to finally start. One more thing- to anyone that doesn't get in please keep trying. I know everyone tells you that but I am proof that you will succeed at getting in if you stay devoted and put in the extra effort it may take to retake a few classes. If anyone goes to PCC and needs to retake Anatomy & Physiology try Jonathan Christie- He is so good and people post his lectures on You tube so you can experience lecture again and again if needed for studying...

Anyone know when we will hear from CCC?

Probably in the next week from what it sounded like during interviews.

Hey guys,

i got got an email from OHSU saying that hadn't sent out acceptances yet. They have finalized their decisions, but there is an "internal question" being considered still. Whatever that means.

Did you email them first or did they just email you with the info?

I emailed them :)

Missjordie, do you know how many ppl OHSU takes?

OHSU PDX 3-year BSN normally takes 24, but I believe they received a grant this year to increase diversity, allowing them to accept 40. Keep in mind that my data is from an info session I attended last summer, so it may no longer be valid...

I can't help but wonder what the hold up is.

Thanks! I had heard through the grapevine that they were taking more. Geez I am ready to know something! I don't have a CNA so I feel like my points are lacking and it scares me.

I don't either. Still hoping :)
