Hello everyone! I was an avid reader of last years articles on applying to schools here, and it really helped me get an idea of how many points I would need. I thought I'd return the favor. So far I've only applied at PCC with 54.5 points (I think). For some reason, I'm not getting any discretionary points at Chemeketa and very few at Mt. Hood, so I might just forgo them this year. Is it just me or are schools going to a model where you can only really have a chance if you take the prereqs there? Anyways, good luck everyone!!!!
Thanks to everyone who responded about the Bcc thing! I got an email back this afternoon letting me know it was meant for me too heheh.
Poppyanddelila, I'm doing my CNA training with Marquis Corporation. I applied on their website for the training course and got interviewed a few weeks ago and was chosen for the sponsored slot. I think the one for April 8th is still posted on their site and there's one in May.
I have also looked into free CNA certification through Worksource Oregon, but you have to be unemployed. This was also over a year ago, so I'm not sure if things have changed or if they even offer it. I went there and did their exam and signed up and all that but I had missed the window for orientation or something so it never panned out.
On another note, for those interested in becoming a CNA, registration for summer term at CCC is May 14th and they generally have their Nursing Assistant program running then. Upon completion, it gives additional points for their Nursing Program application as well (plus even more if working at a partnership facility). Definitely worth checking out.
I did my CNA (1 and 2) training at Cascade Medical School in SE portland. I know quite a few people who went there for theirs, which is why I chose it. Its 4 weeks for the CNA1 (2 weeks in class Mon-Fri 7-4, and 2 weeks for clinicals (Mon-Fri 7-3). They also do the board test at the same facility. I think it was about $800 for the class. Thats my recommendation, but there are tons of places in Portland to do the class (but some are much longer than 4 weeks).
Hahaha that is a great idea!!! Yeah its a little nerve wrecking waiting for a reply especially when PCC and CCC already sent out theirs. Let's hope we hear the good news soon!! I'll keep you updated as well if I hear anything! :)
Did CCC send out invitations yet? Or are you referring to the point distribution worksheet they sent out to applicants?
