APII + Micro in Summer

Published

Hello everyone!

I am a prenursing student trying to get my prerequisites out of the way as fast as possible. I do not have kids, will not be working, and have no other major responsibilities that should keep me from putting 100% into these courses. I have also taken API, Chemistry, College Algebra, and a health class (got all As), which is why I think I might be able to do this. The nursing school I am applying to is very competitive, so I want the highest grades possible. Is this doable over the summer? If any of you have done this or something similar, what was your experience?

Thank you!!!

No I would NOT do both. Maybe one or the other, but not both. Especially A&PII which has a ton of physiology and is way different than A&PI.

I'm an A student, and Micro was the hardest class I've ever taken. It was my last class for my AA and pre-reqs. I literally cried walking out of my final. I did awesome and I got an A, but it was brutal. I would not take it over the summer.

I just took A&P2 (out of 3 at my school), Micro and Statistics last term. And I have a husband and child and lots of other life things. Honestly I had to be diligent and study a lot but I know several other pre nursing students taking similar loads and we all did really well. If you have the time, dedication and motivation, I wouldn’t put it off. It was tough but not impossible.

I think one of the keys here is "over the summer". Summer is normally condensed to 8 weeks, so that's a lot of info in a short amount of time. I would be interested in a follow up as I'm also researching the topic. The advisor at my school recommends not taking them together in any semester.

I’ll also add that when I took them, campus/classes were closed for a week due to snow. We still covered all the material. So 9 weeks vs 10. I think it’s all still doable in a shortened summer term if you’re devoted and have the time. But I agree that if you can avoid taking them together, taking them separately would be the easier route.
