Apartment hunting in St Louis area

My best friend is starting the Accel. BSN at BJC in May... we're heading to St Louis in two weeks to go apartment shopping but neither of us is very familiar with the area.

Anyone have any suggestions of apt properties and/or areas to look in/stay away from?

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

you can always look on craigslist for apartments. I see some good deals on there also. I found my 3 bedroom house with a fenced in backyard in a good neighborhood for $850/month

South County is nice. My cousin lives over there. Oakville area. It seems safe and pretty quiet. It's right off of highway 255 via telegraph road from the Illinois side.

Wow! Well even consider St. Charles the rent is much less expensive and you can get a larger place. The drive to BJH can be about 20 minutes to 40 minutes depending on which parts of the highway is closed at that time. If you are unsure of an area find the local police station and ask them the crime level. They will be honest with you. I do know that parts of the loop are not too safe central west end can get pricey on the rent.
