Hi,
I am here in the US with H4 . I read about "AOS" - what does it mean? Where can I get more info ?
Thanks,
nutella
hi nutella, how are you? am in the same soup with you, you are lucky to have some kids around.
am aalso on h4 cos my husband has h1b and its not easy staying at home sometimes 24/7 except for church, shopping & groceries.
but am trusting God that one day it will be over, very soon. just wanted to say hi
Hi,Suzanne really gave me the best advice ever: So I applied for N.Y. license and now I am waiting for the credit evaluation to get ready . But it is still "ready for review" so some more weeks to wait.
And the other thing is "visa screen". The will share the documents with CVS N.Y. but CVS waived some requirements which means that I have to chase documents . I should be lucky because I passed all English exams, but I feel tired of sitting at home as a "stay at home mum". I really love to be a nurse and miss my job. My husband got H1B so I had no choice but to take this H4 .

Half of the problems will be solved, if USCIS/NCSBN/BON-NY appoints someone else other than CGFNS also for the Visa screen/CES/CVS. Current monopoly of CGFNS should be ended to help nurses to get their immigration related work done in a fast and efficient manner.Amen to this. :chuckle If I'm not mistaken.. I've read somewhere in the web that the USCIS is already looking for another company to issue the visascreen other than CGFNS/ICHP. If this will happen anytime in the near future is uncertain. My suggestion is that each state should be responsible for the evaluation and visascreen for their respective applicants. By this way, applicants would just apply to just one source then after an applicant passes the NCLEX all she/he needs is the english prof. exam. Just my two cents. :)
Visa Screen is immigration and has nothing whatsoever to do with state licensure. If another company is appointed for Visa Screen, you are still going to need to deal with CGFNS for the CES. It takes time for Boards of Nursng to change things.
Calfiornia does their own credentials evaluation, it takes longer to get the ATT from them, as well as they do not issue you a hard license if you want to endorse to another state. But you still need the Visa Screen Certificate.
If this is the worst of the problems that you are going to face in your goal to work in the US, then consider yourself very fortunate.
Excellent! Thanks.
I fear that putting the onus on each state may not help much. The main issue is, individual state BONs may not have the resources or expertise to get all required stuff from a Foreign Nurse's School.
I would suggest a rather simple soultion. Give authority to one more company to do whatever CGFNS is doing now. Even one competitor would eliminate the monopoly of CGFNS. Right now, as many (all ?) of us have experienced, sloooooooooow processing of aplications, non-professional and below standard customer service is the main problem with CGFNS. The representative becoming rude in a span of milliseconds is very common. Unfortuate nurses do not have a choice but to wait for the mercy of CGFNS. If there exists another company (OK, non profit company) for the nurse to get things done, I bet CGFNS attitude will improve dramatically.
Like, for example, there are two different ways to prove one's english ability : TOEFL/TSE or IELTS.
Since CGFNS has consistently proved their inablity to serve the various needs of nurses, its high time someone else should be given authority to help nurses in a professional and efficient manner.

Since you put it that way.. then another company which can do most of what CGFNS can do would be a better option. I've never thought of the diff. BONS not having the resources and expertise for it. Base on what I've read on the web (can't remember where) only the visascreen process service is being considered for the new company. Maybe because duplicating all services being offered by CGFNS would take a long time and lots of training for its staff. But at the present.. we would have to contend to the fact that new applicants have no choice for the moment. :)
Atleast, if they authenticate one more firm for VisaScreen, it would help many. Since NCLEX is being offered in many countries there will be hardly any takers for the CGFNS exam eventually. Also, i read that NCSBN is in talk with folks from India to start NCLEX exam in India.
