Anyone work in Towson?

This is all anecdotal (as is your experience with your friends) but I know someone who works at gbmc peds and someone else who works at shepard pratt as a psych nurse and both of them enjoy their jobs. That being said, every job has its own up and downs.

I work at GBMC in Towson in the NICU and I love it. I also hear great things about St. Joes which is also in Towson.

Thank you for getting back to me....I was wondering how hard it is to get into peds at GBMC or St. Joe's since I will be a new grad????? Also, about Shepperd Pratt, I love psych but don't want to lose my skills, I was wondering if they have a unit in their facility that also has a fair amount of medical work to be done(comorbitities), IV's etc. Thanx!

I work at GBMC and I'm one of those little birdies that can't stand the place. I'm in nursing school now. I work there as a tech. The staff is extremely lazy. You could be running around like you're in a marathon and most of the time they'll sit there and look at you. And then there's usually one that will have the nerve to ask you to do something stupid while you're running around the unit trying to take care of your patients. You may not want to start off here as a new nurse. I say this because the sign on bonus and starting pay is too low. One of the lowest in the areas.

I work as a tech at Sheppard Pratt and they have two geriatrics units where patients might have some medical problems too, but all patients are "medically cleared" before they're admitted to the hospital. There's also the eating disorders unit which isn't so much medical but I've heard that some patients end up with feeding tubes sometimes.

I tried to talk to a recruiter at St. Joseph's about pediatrics and he said it's a really small department and that sometimes they get adult med-surg patients because there's just not enough kids to fill the beds and not enough adult beds. I could be wrong though.

Do you work in the peds department? Just curious, because I might be getting a nursing student position there soon.

I don't work in peds. I work on one of the med-surg units.
