I worked at one in pa. NOT a good facility staffing wise. But that is PA.

What would you like to know? Maybe we can help you.

Hi,

I'm from nw ohio. I have taken a different position as a case manager with

a private company.

I have worked as an NP for the past 6 years.

I was 'let go' from my last position in a private practice due to

financial reasons. The doc (only one there) needed someone to cover his main practice and research facility. That was last April. I wasn't 'allowed' to see patients for almost 2 months. There was talk of hiring another MD, and I asked what would happen to my position if that occured. I was repeatedly reassured that I would have a position. Well, 2 weeks after the new doc came on board, and about 48 hours after one of the nurses in the research dept. passed her NP boards, I was told I was losing money for the practice. Coincidence? The week he let me go, I had a least 15 patients scheduled a day, but the new doc was there, and took over those patients. The 'new' NP was also seeing patients in the practice after I left. When I hired on, I asked if she was going to see patients in the practice, and she told me 'no, I'm not interested in doing that'

This doc also reniged on the severance pay he promised. He is not an honorable man, but he is a good clinician. I've met a lot of those during my career.

So after looking for an NP job for 2 1/2 months, and my cash reserve almost gone, I'm out of that role. I had applied for the NP position at the hcr Waterville facility, went through 2 interviews, and haven't heard from them., even after I called, no one called me back.

I have never done case management before, I'll miss the pay I used to get, and the time off (only worked 4 days a week), but I know one of the people who work for the company, and she's happy there.

I have been a RN for over 30 years and I don't want to go through more interviews.

Thanks for listening to me rant. I'm not quite over my last experience, but things will get better. At least I know I'll make my house payment in Feb.

I worked at one in pa. NOT a good facility staffing wise. But that is PA.

I worked as both agency and an employee at several of them in the Philadelphia area. Horrible staffing ratios and I quit working for them out of fear of getting my license in trouble because the care was so bad and there just was never enough staff.

Some of the staff were nothing short of "hoods" who had no business taking care of people but the facility would continue to hire them because they were somebody's cousin.

I've had my coat stolen, my cell phone stolen, even my lunch stolen while working for them. If it wasn't nailed down, it was gone, no matter where you tried to hide it.

Some of the aides had a game where one or two would try to keep us in a room with a dressing change or something while the others went through the nurses station looking for valuables to take.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when I discovered that a resident had make-up on her face. When I wiped it off I discovered that the make-up was applied to hide a large fresh bruise around her eye.

RN34 wow I would not want to work where you are!

Streetsmart, glad you found something. I used to live about 20 minutes from the Waterville HCR facility.

It was shocking to me as well because I only heard about places like that on TV and the newspaper.

Prior to moving to PA, my only nursing home experience was at a top notch facility in MN and that type of behavior and standard of care was unheard of. I had no idea what people were talking about when they would say that it would be cruel to put their loved ones in a nursing home because I only knew the good one where I worked and the residents were well cared for.

I'm not saying that no one ever had anything stolen from there because that happens everywhere, but that chain of nursing homes in PA hired people that I, as a healthy 35 year old man, would be scared to be in a room alone with, let alone some poor defenseless elderly person relying on them for care.

I never worked LTC again because those places in PA were just too scary.

I know exactly what you mean. I have seen some pretty mean looking staff in facilities. I actually have two HCR facilities within 2 miles of my home. The staffing ratios were horrible, pay was horrible. I can see why LTC has a hard time finding people. I would love to work that close to my home but when I heard my orientation would be 4 hours per each of the units (3), then I was on my own, never working LTC I UH said nevermind.
