Anyone work 3 12 hour days

Specialties Operating Room

Hello, I am a second year nursing student. I am very interested in the OR and am a student member of AORN. I am aware that in the beginning I will have to work and train with my Preceptor 5 days a week, but I am hoping that after putting some time in I will be able to work 3 12s. Does anyone here work 12s, or know anyone who does in the OR? Thanks Alot.

Weekends are generally 12's. Most OR's don't run for 12 hours, so it might be hard to find that shift. There are a few nurses I work with who work 0630 to 1900, but we just have one or two of them per shift, because we also have an evening shift that starts at 1430.

We have 2 who work 12s during the week and some of our weekend staff work 16 hours. Level 2 trauma, so we're staffed 24/7/365.

We have mostly 8"s, and a handful of folks that work 10's and 12's. Have a night crew that works 12's. An extra OR call crew and Heart call crew. Level II trauma, we can run 5 rooms (plus a heart room) at 1500 and 2 rooms (plus heart) at 1700.

We're staffed 24/7 and our shifts are pretty equally divided between 8s, 10s and 12s.

The OR I work in is also staffed 24/7 and we have staff on 8's, 10's, and 12's. Management is trying to reduce the number of 8 and 10 hour staff and is actually encouraging more 12 hour shifts (7a-7p, 11a-11p, 7p-7a). At this point we have mostly 10 and 12 hour staff.
