Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

Someone mention in another thread of having a

Botox question on the nclex, so Botox it is:

Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria,

which temporarily weakens/paralyzes facial muscles.

Used to reduce wrinkles (facial lines), last 90-120 days.

It is also used to TX strabismus (cross eye), abnormal neck

and shoulder contraction and vocal spasm.

May relieve migrane and tension H/A symtoms.

Most common SE: H/A, nausea, brusing, flu like symtoms,

ptosis (eye drooping),

other SE: Temporary facial pain, redness at injection site,

reduced blinking, and weakness in facial muscles.

Extreme cases: muscle weakness can limit facial expressions

Rare occasions: sore may develope on the white of the eye (corneal ulceration)

Hey everyone-- here are my 5 facts:

1. Hyperkalemia always occurs in acidosis

2. The reason you never administer oxygen at a rate above 6L/min is because a Po2

3. The purpose of CBI treatment is to remove blood clots from the bladder

4. A negative thoracentesis procedure and an elevated CVP reading indicates Cardiac Tamponade (bleeding into the pericardial sac causes both decreased BP and increased CVP)

5. Below a systolic BP of 80, perfusion to the vital organs is severely compromised

I will most likely most more in the next hour :) Happy studying to everyone.

1. (going back to the basics...) WHY are acid-base imbalances life threatening?? Because enzyme activity is inhibited resulting in loss of total body functioning.

2. A client receiving chronic steroid therapy is prone to a relative insufficiency when stressed because the adrenal gland cannot produce extra amounts of cortisol as required.

3. Edema develops in CHF patients because the venous pressure increases, causing fluid to move from high pressure to low pressure (ie, the interstitial tissue)

4. People who are obese are at risk for delayed wound healing

5. After a cholecystectomy, the T tube should drain 200-500 ml/day for the first several days. The T tube can be removed after 7-10 days.

hey guys quick question. i'm confused about the precaution for hemorrhagic fever!! i went to the caring4u website listed above and it said all hemorrhagic fever is airborne. in saunders it says contact..does anyone know? also pls. kindly state w/c source you got this from. thanks :D

According to Saunders 3rd edition Hemorrhagic fever is transmitted by direct person-to-person spread via body fluids. It also says that the virus is originally carried by rodents and mosquitoes. Hope that helps!

1. Untreated kidney stones can dislodge and obstruct the ureter. In turn, this obstruction is the primary cause of Hydronephrosis.

2. The most common reason for chronic ear infections in young children is because the child's eustachian tube is straighter, shorter, and wider than normal.

3. If a client's urine is alkalitic then you want to give Vitamin C to acidify it.

4. Decompression drainage of the bladder is used to help the muscles of the bladder maintain their tone without overstreching.

5. Subcutaneous emphysema is caused by an internal thoracic injury.

Hi everyone-- I have a question. I have been reading this thread for about a week and I LOVE it and today I started posting facts that I have come across that I don't think have been posted before.

I have already taken the NCLEX once and unfortunately I didn't pass (106 questions if you were wondering...) I think it was completely my fault because I thought that since I did well in nursing school there was no chance I wouldn't pass, but oh how wrong I was.

ANWAYS-- I am scoring like 55-65% on my Kaplan tests and about the same on other question sets I have found. I am scheduled to take it again on Sept 16, but I do not know if I am doing well enough to take it... :crying2:

I feel that since failing, I have learned SO MUCH INFORMATION (props to this thread as well as my other studying) but what do you guys think?? Postpone or what? Unfortunetly I have a job lined up and they were nice enough to give me a second chance, but I really can't blow it this time around....

Any thoughts?? HELP?? haha please I just need some advice.

Thanks! KEBFDC

1. Priority for any client in a sickle cell crisis is hydration.

2. If a diabetic patient wakes up in the AM with a really high blood glucose, an additional dose of NPH insulin should be given at bedtime (known at "Dawn Phenomenon"

hi everyone. i wanna thank everyone on this website for all their contribution. it dont matter how many u put, the fact tht everone put smething means a lot. i will also like to thnk courtney, she started this site. more grease to ur elbow. even after so many months of starting there are ppl still putting their informations. it shows how caring you are to think about other ppl.

i just took my nclex exam with 230 sumthing question. oh my God was i scared. i took kaplan , answered all the qtrainers.getting 40 on 4 and low 50 on the rest. couple months after, i did the qtrainers again getting 70 twice on q7and 5 and 60. i answered all the qbank and i guez there werent anymore to answer. did some nclex 3500. came on this website where i learnt so many mnemonics like the cranial nerve, spiderman, mrswee, vchips. i had 50min left and i was freaking out. checked the next day and it said pending. i taught i failed cuz ppl said pending could be failing or they havent sent it. so fyi, if u pass , it says approved and it says ur license no. it doesnt say active immediately, pending does not mean u failed, if u see tht for 3 days, call to confirm. i passed.(thnks to God). i had ppl praying 4 me, i fasted for a day. on my wall, i had a positive note for 2 months saying i will pass the first time and i always look at tht at least 3 times a week.

know all ur labs, know the infection control using those mnemonics. know tht siadh retains water and na, u will have decrease na and decrease urine output and increase specific gravity. its the opposite for diabetes insipidus which is increase urine output and decrease specific gravity.

thanks to the person who put the side effect of addison and cushin

addisons(down, down, down,up,down(lowNa,lowbp, lowbloodvolume, increase potassium and lowblood sugar.) oppoiste for cushings. u dont have to read all the textbook. just know the mnemonics for diffrent disease.

do your best, believe in God and he knows u worked hard and he will help u out.

kebfdc, im glad u found this website. dont postpone it cuz the more u do, the more u wanna read more and doubt ur self. if u are in the 60s in qtrainers , then u are on your way to passing.

kebfdc

Thank you so much for your prayers and support but I guess it's not to be:cry:...just found out that I failed. All I want to do is crawl in my cave for a day or two but I'm not done yet...

This thread helped me a lot, please keep it going. I shall return.

BTW, I got 5 med computations, 7 SATA's, 2 or more psyche & disease process and lots of infection control, prioritization & delegation.

I'll be praying for the incoming test takers...Good luck.

ridion, i wish u the best the next time. and sincerely u only know how bad it feels . i pray that everything works out the next time. DONT GIVE UP!!.uve come tis far
