In broward county? Or am I the only one? I see the last thread on either one of these schools was from 2011. I'm trying to get into mcfatter for Novembers start date. Orientation was supposed to be Monday but was cancelled due to the storm. So now it's on September 10th. I'm afraid a lot of people may be applying. And that I may not get on. :( was thinking about emailing the counselor and asking her how many they admit each time.

That's good u like it I'm really excited about the journey of becoming a nurse. Are the classes hard? What have u learned so far in clinicals?

The classes aren't hard, just a lot to know in such little time. Currently, I have clinicals twice a week. Wednesdays and Fridays. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, are spent in class either taking tests, or listening to lecture. We usually have tests twice a week. Mostly Mondays and Thursdays. It's usually 2 chapters each test, but sometimes it can be 3. This week we have a test Tuesday and Thursday. So that means there's not much time between to study! That's what I mean by its so much in such little time.

Starting in April there will be 4 tests a week! Yikes!

In clinical, we're just doing bed baths and vitals. Nothing major. Just on Friday, we started adding care plans. And learning how to chart. So we'll be doing more soon. I'm assuming that's all we'll be doing pretty much until April when we move into Block 2. Then I believe we can pass meds. Because we'll be doing pharmacology.

Hi everyone! Sorry for not responding! I've been super busy! I attend mcfatter currently in block one. Love it! If u get in April u have the same block one teacher. April will be her last class. She's awesome she's an army nurse a tough cookie but def love her! Core is 3 weeks.. 22 tests are done during core which we do at home! We only go in once a week during the 3 week period. I started in November and our first clinical Was right around the corner! We go to clinical Mondays and Thursdays from 8-1 after core we start fundamentals 1 which is sort of hard because its more of a what would u do type of section. U know, the questions that have 4 right answers but only ONE correct answer lol. After fundamentals comes BSF body structure function which is basically 2 college semester of anatomy squeezed into 3 weeks. It was tough but easier than I thought. You'll be amazed how much u learn! We finished BSF now were finishing up fundamentals 2. After fundamentals 2 we have growth and development which only consists of about 3 tests then we move to block 2 as soon as we come back from spring break. I love it we go to school Monday- Friday 8-230 ( usually get out around 145) and of course if we have clinical we go Monday and Thursday. So far the program has been great ive met awesome new friends. It's alot of work and cramming but it's worth it. I'm getting by with 70s but that's good for Me. My teacher said if u get an 80 in nursing school it's amazing lol if u are eligible for financial aid THEY DO NOT PAY FOR BOOKS SUPPLIES OR UNIFORMS! At the end of the program u will get a left over check which will reimburse u with what you've spent and a little extra if u got books for cheap. I've used amazon mostly and have had great deals. I can't tell u which books you'll need because they possibly might change them. If uve never had anatomy before like myself I suggest u find a book or something and brush up on it. U dont come to class in uniform until u finish core. U also don't need stethoscopes until the END of BSF when u do vital signs. Hope this helps u if u plan on going to mcfatter. Ill try to check this more often for more questions I just always forget!

Also I forgot to add. The only frustrating thing about the program is we go over things we won't need while still trying to study for the things we do. For example lets say Monday we lecture about digestive Tuesday well have a test on urinary and start studying skeletal then Wednesday we start studying cardiovascular then Thursday we take our digestive test and learn about muscular then Friday we take out skeletal. Get it? Kind of confusing lol but that's why it's tough because u have one system In ur head but ur taking 2 other different system tests

Wow. We do things completely different at Atlantic. I'm in fundamentals now. It's not as bad as I though. Been getting 80's and 90's on my tests. Hope I can keep it that way. After spring break we start BSF. And there will be a test 5 days a week. Monday through Friday. Then right after is human growth and April 23rd starts block 2! My clinicals are 6:50 to 1:15 wednesdays and fridays. and we do vitals and careplans at clinical. and next week we'll be starting head to toe assessments at clinicals.

Our teacher hates that some teachers don't break up the curriculum. Like we'll do chapters that relate to each other. Our test in Tuesday is on fluid balance and electrolytes. And Thursday we have a test in the urinary, bowel, and respiratory system. Some other blocks have fundamentals from 8-10, BSF from 10-12, and human growth from 12-1:45. I would die if it was like that.

Last day of clinicals for us is 3/22. Kinda happy about that. Lol

I'm scared about block 2 though! We had some students that came and spoke to us that graduated and they said its hard, but doable.

Thanks Mrs Cordero.. I am anticipating being in the April Class at Mcfatter. Thanks for the insight , it takes the edge off.

Hello pookyp. I graduated from mtc August of last year. You are correct when you state Block 2 is hard. I had Mrs. D for block 2 and she was awesome. There were a few times I wanted to quit and many times I finished an exam to then go in the hallway and cry. It is stressful but possible. Matter if fact, I was taking Block 2 AND taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 and the lab at BC. It took a toll in me but I passed them with Bs and 2nd block with a C average. Just study, study, study. Don't leave drug cards for the last minute and breathe. Things start to pick up towards the middle and you might feel like quitting. Don't! Unfortunately no one in my class liked me and judged me. So unfortunately I had no study partners. I was able with God's help, to do this alone. Clinicals were fun at Cleveland clinic. The PCTs LOVE the students and will ask them to do the work they don't really want to. All in all it was a great experience but it isn't for the weak-hearted, weak-stomached, or the lazy ones. You can do it!

Mrs. Cordero: who's the teacher who is leaving?

Hello! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. ********* is leaving :( but so far this is the first week of block 2 and it's pretty easy got a 95 on my first pharm test. The toughest part is when we get to disorders but as long as you study study study and learn the way your teacher is you will be fine. I'm terrrrrrrible at math and just discovered I actually enjoy doing the conversions! Nursing is tough but if it's what you love you can do anything! How's Atlantic going??

Hi! I'm in body structure right now! 4 tests a week! I hate it! April 23 is the last day of block 1! Can't wait! Did you take the hesi? We have to in 2 weeks. I'm terrible at math too, but always get them right and I'm surprised to say I kind of enjoy it too! What was on your first pharm test?

For those in block 2 or who are about to begin Block 2. Don't procrastinate on your drug cards!!! I always had a problem with those. Lol. Study hard! I did Block 2 AND took A&P1 w/ lab and passed, so it's very possible! Just don't quit! I would usually leave the classroom after an exam an cry, cry, cry, but then I'd get back up and face the night head on. You guys can do it! I'm actually considering heading over to mtc to see my old instructors to tell them I got accepted into the LPN-RN transition program starting in May! Good luck to you guys! No procrastinating!!! :p

Could you tell me more about the LPN-RN transition? It's like everytime I ask someone on here they're not active anymore. Thanks for the tip on the drug cards!

How long is the LPN-RN program?

What was your gpa when you applied? Or do they not really look at it since you have an LPN license?

Are you going to BCC? How many times a year do they accept the LPN students? Just once a year in May?

TIA!

No problem pookyp!

The LPN-RN program is (I believe) 15 or 17 months long. It's 3 months sooner than the Generic students.

My gpa for my prereqs was a 3.4, but my cumulative is a 2.0, (sucky I know).

Prereqs for this May were:

*A&P1

*A&P1 lab

*A&P2

A&P2 lab

*Chemistry

*English

For those students applying for next term they'll need Microbiology and College Algebra.

They looked at my GPA but to be honest a 2.0 was the minimum cumulative. It's because of the 3.4 on my prereqs, but from what I was told in January LPNs would only need the minimum. ;)

Yes, I am going to BC-Central since it's the ONLY campus this year that is taking LPNs. I wanted South but hey, things happen for a reason. At least I'll be able to focus since my boyfriend is going to the South campus. Generic students don't go to Central. Next summer is when they'll be accepting LPNs in South campus.

They accept LPN-RN applicants once a year.

If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them! :nurse::)
