Anyone Trying To Get Into Atlantic, Sheridan, or Mcfatter 2012-2013?

In broward county? Or am I the only one? I see the last thread on either one of these schools was from 2011. I'm trying to get into mcfatter for Novembers start date. Orientation was supposed to be Monday but was cancelled due to the storm. So now it's on September 10th. I'm afraid a lot of people may be applying. And that I may not get on. :( was thinking about emailing the counselor and asking her how many they admit each time.

Oh and yes we did have to do. A portfolio with resume cover letter mission statement and letter of resignation. We have to bing our books too. Right now I carry my fundamentals study guide and book plus my binder plus my dictionary and my arm almost falls off! I will be erring a rolling back pack THIS WEEKEND!

Hey sorry I've been so busy with school and the holidays haven't had time to respond

! That's crazy that u had a core work book we didn't have that just the book and our quizzes online. Did u have to go to class for core (not sure if u already mentioned it) we move pretty quickly do about 3 different units a week while taking tests for the last weeks units so its quite crazy. We will be finished with the nursing assistant portion of block one January 14 which is when we start our clinicals. I can't wait! We also don't need any supplies like stethoscope or any of that until later on. Half of the class including me failed our first test because she wrote directions at the BOTTOM of the test and we didn't read them so we got a few problems wrong. The tests keep getting more hard . The hardest so far was on mobility but our next text which is elimination of the bowel and urinary is going to be verrrrrry hard! Luckily our teacher babies us and if we do bad she will still pass us as long as she sees us trying and as long as we pass the BSF portion. We finish block 1 sometime in March. My friend is currently in block 2 and she says its ridiculously hard! Not looking forward to that. So how has school been so far? Is ur teacher nice? Did u migrate towards a little group of friends? How have ur core quizzes been?? Details!

That's ok! I forgot I posted anyway! Yes we didn't have to buy the core text book. It's assigned to us in class. The school supplies it. All we have to do is buy the workbook. The first week (because we only had a week of school before xmas break) We did CPR which was a day and a half, and get checked off on handwashing and PPE wear.

We're all assigned these nice dell laptops, and that's where we do our tests and quizzes. My first quiz I got a 91 %. The tests are not too hard so far. I'm sure that will change. When we get back the first day is quiz #2 and that same week a math quiz. And we will be getting checked off on blood pressures and pulse. I also think we will be getting checked off on head to toe assessments and bathing. I think the last week of January we will start clinicals. I'm so scared of Block 2. Maybe you can ask your friend what things we should do to prepare. They also throw a little math in the quizzes too. I guess to prepare us for Pharm. We're with this teacher until April. I like her.

I don't think the quizzes count. The only thing that counts is the Core Final which we have to pass with at least a 70% in order to move onto the next block. We also have to take an exit HESI exam after each block. My teacher is very nice. Heavy spanish accent because she's hispanic. But she's so funny! She has stories for days!

So far one student didn't show up on the last day before break. I wonder if she dropped out or just missed a day. They don't give you too many days to miss.

They want us to bring all of our books daily when starting clinicals. So I'll need a rolling backpack too. Can't wait to see what facilities we go to. It could be as far a Boca. Ugh! I hope not though. They are very strict on the dress code. A few kids got written up already for legs showing (socks have to be long enough to cover your leg while sitting) , Earring have to be balls and no diamonds, and hair not touching the collar. Has to be pulled back. They are so strict about this. Gosh! I hope the time flies! Can't wait to get done already! Lmao I couldn't imagine starting in April and finishing 2014. Can you?

Do you work? I don't. Which makes things a tad bit easier. Alot of my classmates do. I think out of the 20 students in my class just me and another classmate doesn't work. Some kids come to class SO tired. I feel so bad.

Yes it is first come, first served. And there is no wait list. You're pretty early. I'm sure you got in.

Hi thank you for responding. Are you presently attending Mcfatter, and if so how are the classes? Anything i should do as far as getting familiar with the program (ie; books AP)? How intense are the classes?

Thanks

I applied to mcfatter but didn't get in. I applied to late. So I went and applied to their sister school Atlantic tech. They have 2 sister schools. So I applied to 2 out of the 3 schools. Just in case I got a rejection. Lol I just started in December.

oh ok well congrats! how do you like it so far? What are the core classes?

I like it! Tomorrow starts clinical so we'll be going to the nursing home doing CNA type work. Core is one class. They call it core. Just the basics. Infection control, HIPAA, abbreviation, etc. it's a 90 he course.

Wow clinicals already? I wonder if Mcfatter has the same structure?

I'm at Atlantic currently and I like it! I tried to get into mcfatter but didn't get in. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise because I really like this school. :) I just started in December and already have been in clinical for a couple weeks now. The teachers really want to see you succeed and they do a good job of teaching.
