Anyone taken CHM130 at Rio Salado?

I am signing up for this course which starts 10/26 - has anyone taken this class? I have read a lot of info about some of the instructors being excellent in terms of communication, etc. and some not so much, so I'd just like any opinions. PM me please :) Thanks in advance!

I took it and my instructor was not too bad, double check your figures (for the math on any conversion problems). And make sure to answer the lab questions completely.

I am taking CHM130 at Rio right now and just finished my mid-term last week. I can honestly tell you that I've never spent so much time on a class, but I have an A average so it's paying off. I wouldn't recommend my instructor AT ALL, as I am completely self teaching here, and his feedback is minimal and slow coming. I don't have enough posts yet to PM you, so I'm not sure how to tell you which instructor it is...

I took it a couple of years ago. It was the most difficult class I have taken as far but actually very interesting. I had a great instructor (last name *****...) that gave tons of feedback so if you can get into one of her sessions and are fairly disciplined about staying on top of assignments you should do well. Good Luck!

I took it from Rio in the spring. I did learn a great deal but it was equally frustrating to me because of how long it took to get an answer to a question back from the instructor. Often time, I would end up hearing from him a week later after I had already taken a quiz... or that it took him 4 weeks to grade the midterm and final (essay portion)! I hope you are blessed with an instructor who is prompt in getting back to you and will take time to explain your concerns. I wan not that lucky.. and I am sure that would have made a huge difference in my experience at Rio. On the other hand, I had a fantastic experience with my Psy 101 instructor. Can praise her enough... so yes, it's a chance we have to take. If you don't like the way your instructor handles your concerns & questions, move on to the next instructor... I should have!

Good luck!

I took this and got an A in it. It's probably too late for you to switch sections, but if you can get in touch with me privately I'll tell you who my instructor was. She did a great job. Responded to email and graded assignments promptly.

I am taking the Chem 130 right now. Got an 82 on the midterm. How is the final? Is it worse than the midterm?

Thanks

Hi dianabelanger,

I got an 88 on the midterm and I think an 82 on the final. I ended the course with an 89 average! Grrrrr...so close to an A! The final was harder for me, but I also knew that I wasn't as on top of the 2nd half as I was in the beginning. It was exactly the same style, so I would say that as long as you keep on top of the content, it's about the same.

Against my better judgement but related to the need to get classes done without having to travel to class, I am enrolled to start Chm 130 and Micro on Feb 16th... I am a veteran of Rio science classes, having taken all my other pre-reqs through them, so I know it'll suck. But other than that any advice, anything you found helpful?

The only advice I could probably give you is to be sure you don't take it from a particular teacher. I'll PM you his name...

My final should be coming up in a few weeks...any words of wisdom? Anything in particular that you remember that I should study for? I am going in for tutoring every week now, hopefully that will help.

I was in the same section of this same class at Rio (at the same time). Too bad I'm too new to PM anyone. I had a lot to say about this class on another post related to this one (I suggested that people not do it). My experience was bad.
