We took them frequently. DO you have Saunders NCLEX review? It's a great tool to use unit by unit in school...and will help prepare you for HESI.

We don't take HESI but we have to take ATI tests at the end of each semester. We have to achieve a certain level of proficiency and if we don't hit that level then we must go through remediation. To prepare, I studied the ATI book for Fundamentals and mostly reviewed my chapters/notes in the Fundamentals of Nursing book.

Best of luck!!

I take ATI tests as well, and in the 3 semesters previous to this one, you'd get extra credit for being proficient or advanced... now it's a required 2% of our grade. Personally I think ATI was a waste of time/money for me - we only paid to take the proctored exams and didn't get any review materials.

We take at least one HESI each semester. We had pharm last semester, and our instructor gave us a "topical outline" that we could fill with things to study. She did the same this semester, but they're pretty general. What I just bought and haven't really used yet is the HESI NCLEX review book - just look it up on amazon. It's green and maroon. It doesn't have a separate pharm section, but it has practice HESIs for everything from Fundamentals on. All the items are weighted by difficulty on the HESI, so your percentage score isn't a factor of how many you got right. The most important thing, from what they told us, is don't kill the patient. When you answer every question, make sure that there is no way that whatever you choose could kill the patient, and you should pass. Our is worth 20% of our grade in pharm and fundamentals, and it jumps to 40% for Med Surg. I thought the questions were extremely hard for Pharm, but even though I missed about 7 (and guessed right on several others) I scored a 99% - over 1000 actual score, but HESI provides a percentage score as well for instructors who are using it for part of your grade. If you miss easy questions or kill a pt your grade drops a lot, if you miss something they deem difficult it doesn't hurt you much.

we take a HESI exam at the end of each semester as a final. there is a HESI review book that you can find online on amazon.com, which might help you prepare. good luck! :)

Thanks everyone! I am gonna see if my bookstore has the Saunders NCLEX review.

Yes, we have to take them after our second and third semesters. I haven't taken one yet, but I've heard varying comments on them.

This is the end my first semester in nursing school. We are taking a Hesi exam next week :uhoh21:. We were told by our instructor that there was no certain way to study for the exam, other than go over every thing since the beginning :icon_question:. YAY

Yeah a friend of mine told me it is not as tricky as the our nursing tests...So that kind of makes me feel better about it.

My school is on quarters. The ADN program is 7 quarters. We have to take a HESI after 4th quarter. If you don't score high enough, you have to stay after summer quarter for 3 weeks of remediation. Then you take another HESI before graduation, and same deal - I think it's 2 weeks of remediation then if you don't score high enough.
