I found out the end of March that I was accepted in the ADN program of one of the two programs I applied to. I was listed as 1st alternate for the second program I applied to. I received a call from the second program the end of June and had moved up into the class, because someone else that had been accepted, took a spot in another program. I had to decide which program to officially enroll in. After much consideration, I decided to accept the first program.

A mandatory Freshman Orientation was held the first of May (during the middle of finals). We were given our requirements that we need before beginning clinicals (such as vaccines, physical exam, etc.). Then earlier this month a seminar entitled "How To Survive Nursing School" was also held for the incoming Freshmen. At the seminar we purchased our student handbook for the 2001-2002 school year and our syllabus for the fall semester. We have 2 skills labs classes to take this first semester, but our instructors and the upcoming Sophmores highly suggested that we go ahead and begin our first skills labs so that we will not have to worry about that once the semester begins. This is basic skills such as temps, BPs, handwashing, patient transfer, etc. We have to be checked off my 2 peers on these skills and then by an instructor. Our study group is meeting Monday morning to begin our peer check-offs so that we can have this course completed by the beginning of classes on Aug. 27.

I too, am VERY nervous about beginning this new road I've chosen to take. But I know in the long run, God will help me through it all and everything will work out A-OK!!! :) If you trust in the Lord and pray to him, he will see that everything works out A-OK for you too!! Keep the faith and believe that you CAN do this!!

Good luck to all new, returning, and completing nursing students. Together we will succeed!!! :D

Happy Riding,

Shonda

I hope you all will be accepted into the desired programs! You have worked hard and many of you are mature individuals and will make great nurses! I will pray for you all.

My advisor said I should apply in Oct., and will be able to start clinicals in Jan 02. I need to maintain a very good GPA, because a good part of our seats are for Union members, I am not one of them. The rest of the seats are granted to the students with the highest GPA.

What are your GPAs?

Good luck! I am enrolled in a ADN program and my nursing GPA is a 4.0. My cumulative is a 3.65. I took some liberal arts classes back in 95. I try so hard to keep it up too because I want to go to a private University after I graduate to get my BSN, and I'll need Scholarship money for that!

Hi RN,

I am proud of you. How did you maintain that GPA4.0? I need some advice because I need to hit the books from start this I have not been to school for 15 years now and will start my prerequisites this fall.

I am so happy to be a part of this Forum. When I am unsure of myself I just click!! and here I find people who are in the same position as I am.

You will get that Scholarship my dear.

Good luck!!

Dirty House, Messy kid, Unfed husband!!! But I think they still love me. Plus I haven't had to work yet. But those loans are starting to pile up. I'm sure you all know what I mean!!!

Oh my gosh rn2003, please don't make me think about those loans. I try to just keep that stashed away from my conscious being. It's so funny to hear everybody freaking about admission to the nursing program because I remember just how that felt. It's neat to know that we all go through so much of the same stuff. I like what Jeannie1163 said about even making beds being nerve-racking (sp?). I was so-o-o-o-o-o frustrated by hospital corners and thought I'd never be able to get those damn things right.

As far as GPAs go, I'm in a BSN program and I've got a 4.0 nursing average and a 3.88 cumulative. Not too shabby for a high school dropout. I've worked pretty hard for that, and I'm looking forward to graduating suma cum laude in May.

Be blessed all....;)

Way to go crna someday!

I'm also considering taking the crna route someday. The only school in Wi is in La Cross. Do you know of any in Northern Il?

Thanks,

Kourtney

I don't really know of any in the northern IL area. I'll tell you a good spot to check though... http://www.anesthesia-nursing.com . That's a nice website with lots of information on CRNA programs across the country.

There is a CRNA program at Rush University in Chicago. That is about as north as my knowledge base gets :)
