Anyone starting a Grad-Entry Program this Fall?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello everyone.. I'm looking for others who are starting a Grad-Entry Nursing program this fall. I will be attending The Ohio State University and am nervous and EXCITED! Anyone here????? Let's talk! :nurse:

AWESOME Karen!

I'm right there with you, as far as, Husband and three children! Two of my children are young and studying around them is IMPOSSIBLE!! So, you probably want to get your studying time and place planned out A.S.A.P!!! I'm also in Ohio, what school are you attending? ..and what courses are you taking? As for being the oldest....I seriously doubt it. In my program there are 65 people and about 10 are probably 45 plus....and my number may be off, but I can assure you I saw several grandmothers with a full head of GRAY!!

Can't wait to hear about your first day!

Well, I had patho today and was surprised - it seems like there's a lot of information, but it's nowhere NEAR as detailed as I expected for "advanced" patho! It's the same stuff I did in my graduate patho for my ICU diploma in Australia, 9 years ago. Oh well, hopefully it's going to be a good class and the assessment is just 4x multi choice exams each 3 weeks, so hopefully I'll get a nice grade!

tomorrow... stats. Bleugh!

Bleh @ Patho! I'll hopefully be more interested once we get past...the cell. :p

At least in your patho class you are starting at the beginning with the cell My program threw me right into immunology. I had to go back and look up the def. of an interleukin, among other things. My book is very detailed, and I keep reading it and going "what did that just say?". It makes me feel dumb that I can't seem to understand it when I first read it.

There has been a lot of talk about PDAs. My program doesn't require one...and I know nothing about them. Does anyone suggest them? And what programs do you have on them? Do they make your life any easier?

My program doesn't require one (though the BSN program does), but I used one during my BSN and found it highly useful! I am mainly using mine atm as a calendar to keep organized! Once I get to my practicum, I plan on getting strong programs with lots of information for like diagnosing, med admin, etc.

[begin vent]Ahhh, first Patho test is MONDAY! I'm soo worried! I've been studying, but my teacher didn't really go into much detail in lecture, and the book goes into EXTREME detail! She said to study the chapter summary and do the practice questions in the workbook and on the CD that came with the book, and I did okay on the first one, but terrible on the second test I took! I'm at a loss as to how deep she wants me to go into all of this. I mean, with the tissue injury section, does she really want me to go down into the cellular level? >.

Anywhoo, wish me luck!

Christen: The first exam always causes stress. You don't know what to expect. Just make sure you understand the processes and you should do fine!:wink2:

My program recommends *highly* recommends PDAs, I'm trying to find the best one for the BEST price. I didn't know Nursing school was going to be so expensive. Yikes!!

VTBabyNurse: I have to reread all SCIENCE based books, and to be honest, most of the people who made A's and B's in my prenursing courses...REREAD everything! The first reading is just to get an idea of what the author is trying to say. The second and sometimes third reading is when you figure out just what the author is saying....lol

Study hard! I start my program 9/24...can't wait to share patho and stat with you all!:D

So how is it going for everyone so far? We've been in a little over a month and have had 3 exams (2 in Patho, bleh), 3 papers and bunches of reading and homework so far. I'm loving the hands-on stuff in the skills lab but am hating theory and research classes. I'll get through them but I'm not enjoying writing all those papers!

It's overwhelming and I'm EXHAUSTED!:zzzzz We've had one quiz in Patho, which wasn't too bad. Nursing Fundamentals is keeping me busy. We are learning so many new skills. I actually had my first clinical experience today at the Medical Center and it was a humbling experience. I look forward to learning more! ....but I'm super tired and my diet has got to improve. 1 meal and soy lattes...are not going to do it!!!!

Hello. I read that you took advance patho in ODU. How was it? Thinking about taking that class as non- degree student so I can apply for my masters. were you required to take the physical assessment web class and lab? Was it hard? Thanks.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

Hi all,

I am FINISHING my master's entry FNP program in two weeks, and want to tell you that you CAN do it! I worked part time through the whole thing, kept track of my kids (for the most part), and did very well academically. The first semester was the hardest, getting used to studying again and not having free time. But you can do it-you wouldn't have been accepted to these programs if they didn't think you could be successful. Use your classmates for resources and support, form study groups, and know that it will be over in the not too distant future.

Best of luck to you all......
