Hey,
I thought we could chat before school starts. Orientation isn't very far away. I am very excited!!!!
a local area hospital refuses to take anyone from dsc. i was told they provide a substandard education. it sure seems that way.
So much for the rumor mill!! If you are going to make such statements have the research to back it up! Pass rate/fail rate/state scores and such. I know of no hospital or other facility in this area that refuses to hire DSC grads! As a DON myself there is nothing wrong with DSC and they have a good program. In this area I do believe Bethune Cookman has one of the best but very difficulty to get into as far as the waiting list. I hired alot of DSC grads and they worked just as well if not better then many of the other schools grads!!! Good luck Ladies/Gents and you have a long career awaiting you. I dont think you'll regret it :) You will learn much more when you are out and in the work force then you ever learned in school (no matter what school you attend)!
Call them!! They require BSN for managerial positions not staff nurses and I have professional ties to all these facilites. They hire ADN's also. DSC and Bethune Cookman are in the mist of planning a BSN program also. You may have thought you did the research but not well enough. I've been an RN for 30 years and live and work with all the Florida Hospital System in Volusia and Flagler County to include Flordia Hospital Flagler and also Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. I am associated with everyone of these hospital. Please dont continue giving "false" information to others here. I hire and HAVE HIRED ADNS!!! Enough said lol.

I hope this clarifies any misconceptions regarding ADN or BSN requirements with these facilities. If you like I can also pull my P&P regarding my hiring requirements for all our facilities :) The rest of you in DSC - keep your head up and dont let anyone tell you that an ADN is not "good enough". You are really going to enjoy what the future holds for you! I look forward to working with some of you one day!!!
my take- i think rnwotwob1 may have been turned down for a job b/c he only had an ADN and perhaps another applicant with either A. more experience, B. a BSN, or C. both may have gotten the job.
let's keep in mind that few places are hiring nurses in central florida, let alone new graduates! halifax has ZERO job listings! nothing administrative, nothing clericla, nothing clinical...ZERO. florida hospital seems to have plenty of listings though.
anyone have the time energy to copy/paste NCLEX pass rates from DBCC, oh excuse me, daytona state ;)and surounding schools.
p.s. i graduate from daytona in december!

Congrats also on your upcoming graduation. Things will turn around and jobs will be open again hopefully before too long. Halifax has once again started posting openings but as you said they want experience at the moment. Ormond Memorial Medical is the same, they are only hiring those with 1-2 years experience within the last 3 years and it must be "hospital" experience. I know I had to turn away alot of applicants in my specialty because of no recent experience specific to our area. I would have loved to train but cutbacks have been so severe I couldnt get the allotments to train anyone without it.
