Finally... I have a job! But now I'm so scared!
review growth and develop. stages., and peds specific diseases/treatments, and parent teaching (i hate to tell you, but alot of the stuff at the health dept involves peds.) (also - if you hate it so much, then step aside - lots of grad nurses are willing to take the position)

Do you have to include a recent job on new Application?
not always the case. i clipped an article from the newspaper stating that anything under 6 months can be considered temp. The article was written by an employment specialist. they would know. why on earth would a person list it on the resume but not on the app? sometimes you can list duties under "related experience". (that was in the same article)

Do you work at Florida Flagler Hospital Palm Coast?
yes, they are two different organizations. thank heavens for that.

Im miserable at my new job!!! HELP!
it's a shame, but there are so many nurses who are so da** miserable. Don't let 'em get to you and push you around. I think people of that sort will try to pick on someone new or someone they think it a pushover or who can be pushed around easily. well, stand tall - don't take crap from them because they will keep trying to push you around. Just keep involved with the work and come up with your own system of handling all your duties. Try to find one or two people who can mentor you. and remember - ignore the old cows who should step aside for the nurses who really want to be there.

Hospitals Hiring only Nurses with BSN Degree
yes - it's true. there's one in st augustine. it's a shame they require one before. i would imagine most new grads are short of cash when they get their adn. i think many people were hoping for a paying job so they could afford bsn or further certification classes.

no, you don't. consider it a temporary position - anything under 6 months. (it's a shame that had to be your first position/first experience in the medical field. look at it as a learning experience of the sort of place you don't want to be at)

Should the H1N1 Vaccine be mandatory for Healthcare Professionals?
look what happened in the '70's with the first swine flu vax. it was a big fiasco. the way the gov't is pushing this so quickly - makes a person wonder how much will be mucked up in the future. (Just google the last swine flu "epidemic" during the 70's)

Career Advice Please
there seems to be nothing for new grads in this part of florida just now. Seems to be more positions for CNA and HHA. (there's not a nursing shortage - there's plenty of new grads being rejected for positions daily - just look on this website) if i had to do it again? I'd rather go to medical school - not such a waste of time/waste of brains.

the hospital in st augustine is supposed to be a nicer place to work at. the people i know there have been there forever - over 20 years

Do you work at Florida Flagler Hospital Palm Coast?
I did my clinical there. I had the chance to work with the nurses. They had a lot of rotten things to say about the place. Between their comments, patients comments and my own observations, it does not seem to be a very good place to be. (example: the first nurse I worked with said that the nurses are treated like sh** and are never backed up by admin. They work you to death. Oh - and the religious nature of the place - they try to make you cough up some of your salary to go toward their mission work)
-
Someone should warn people!!!
hey - RN, BSN. everyone is having the same crappy hassle. The license means a person is qualified (isn't that what the clinical hours were all about - hands-on hospital clinical hours). The facilities want everyone to have a year experience. I am beginning to think this has all been a waste of time/waste of brains.

Interview Nightmare
Has anyone ever had any experience with this scenario? Please tell me your interview nightmares. Here's mine: A nurse manager at an area facility called me and set up an interview (she choose the time and day). I showed up early and ended up waiting in the lobby of the facility for 45 minutes. Finally, I was escorted into an office by a worker who refused to divulge her name. She told me to sit in a chair at a table. Two other women were in the office - one was on the phone. Finally, the woman on the phone told me her first name. She stated the nurse manager never told anyone she had an interview scheduled. I was told she was on other business for the day. The other woman stated that the nurse manager would not be back after Monday. The woman behind the desk was clearly flustered (it wasn't her fault - she didn't know). She decided to go through with the interview (i supplied the resume and related info). Needless to say, it was a waste of time. She had other business to attend to (several phone call interruptions, etc). I was so annoyed by the end. I didn't let it show though. I just chalked it up to what not to expect during an interview. Anyhow, I was so tempted to send a sarcastic "thank you" note to the no-show nurse manager. I didn't. Maybe I should have. It just seemed really rude at the time. But on reflection, would a person really want to work for a nurse manager like that? anyone ever have a no-show interviewer? or any other horror interview stories? It might prove useful or just post for a good laugh.

Thinking about moving to florida
oh boy! you should move here. you'd fit right in. the state loves ex-cons. and cons-on-the-run and fugitives (no, actually, it's the criminals that love the state!). don't you ever watch the national news? all the crooks and scumbags high-tail it to florida. this one nurse i heard about drugged her way from ky and a couple of other southern states to jax to st aug. to daytona etc stealing pt meds, etc. she quit before they could fire her. why didn't you turn this person in? just because you weren't at work - you still had an obligation to do the right thing. a lot of stuff a person does during their free time can affect your license and job. for example - look at the recent episodes here - where deputies get caught dui. one even crashed his personal car into the back of a cop car. go figure.

Why Does Everyone Hate Florida So Much??
everyone doesn't hate florida. they only hate parts of it. i hate this area (daytona) but i love the river and beach and wildlife (frogs, lizards, alligators, bobcats, etc). The job situation is lousy in this area. (it was much better back home - better hospitals - teaching hospitals, etc). Gainesville is a better area - UF and Shands - better quality anyhow, i think people hate parts of FL, not the whole state.

Baptist Health Jacksonville Job Fair
They do not seem to be interested in new RNs. They advertise all the time but reject anyone w/o 1+ years experience.
