This thread is for anyone who is trying to get into, currently at, or graduated from Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh!
I already took Nutrition as well. I don't know if there are any other classes offered. . .I would rather have the time off. I might join the casual pool as a tech at one of the hospitals; Presby had a posting recently but that wouldn't be until September so who knows who'll be hiring by then. I'd only want 1 shift per week at most though. I have a little one to deal with as well.
I'm going full time. I've already taken A&P and Nutrition. Do they let you take other classes in the slots that would have been filled by those, or do you just have some extra study hours free?Boy, it's going to feel really strange to not have a job.
As a Shadyside alum that transferred in all of my science classes, I can tell you that the nursing classes have to be taken in order at first (ie 100 and 101 before 102 and 103), so you can't really taken other nursing classes in those slots. You can take Logic or Diversity early if you want to get them out of the way, but those aren't particularly difficult classes anyway. I thought about taking them early, but decided to wait, and take a small courseload at first while I was adjusting, and then take logic and diversity later with my class.
I can't find the page now, but I remember it said Nutrition and A&P I and II (only transferable as a pair) and some other stuff. I think Microbiology was there too. Guess I'd better call them on Monday to make sure they still accept everything. It sure would suck to loose working hours to take a class I'll have to take over again anyway.
What do they teach in Diversity, anyway?
I posted this in another thread but I figured I would give it a shot in this one as well..... Maybe someone can give me some more input.
This whole application process has me SOOO frustrated. My test results got lost in the mail and after 3 phone calls and multiple emails I finally got my answers. I passed so I immediately sent in my application.
I emailed Natalie the other day to ask if she had received all of my materials for admission. I have read a few posts about people having some things lost in the office and after my test results were lost, I wanted to check to make sure that she had everything she needed. They should have arrived at her office by last Friday, Monday at the latest.
I got an email back from her yesterday asking if I had even taken the test because she could not put together my file until that had occurred!!!
I realize that she has a lot of papers that cross her desk and I am not mad at her but I am just frustrated. I'm concerned that everything that I sent and had sent is just floating around somewhere because no one checked to see if I passed the test. I see that I lot of people have received acceptance letters this week and I'm getting worried. I have had all of my application materials in and they could have been looked at but my file has not even been put together yet!!!! IT'S SOOOOO FRUSTRATING and Natalie is VERY difficult to get a hold of. I call and leave messages and don't get calls back and if I send emails, it takes too long to get a response. I feel like I really get nowhere.
Has anyone else had these same problems?
joyce120: congrats! I was orginally going to do part time, but decided to go with the ft program.
pgh2888: You know, now that you say this, I'm starting to think it's not just me/coincidence. First, I never got my test results. I had to call her and get them, and she acted a little bit put out by it like I wasn't giving it enough time and when she checked she was like, "OH! They ARE in, they must've gotten lost in the mail here they are!" So I applied. I had everything sent and kept bugging her with emails and she told me that one of my recommendation letters had never arrived which I KNOW was sent because I paid the postage and had it sent myself. But I again was like "OH, maybe lost in the mail, blah blah blah". . .that recommender would've been a really good person to have as a recommendation but she's a really busy person so I didn't want to bother her again so I scrambled at the last minute and found a 4th recommendation and had that sent and luckily got in.
The moral is to email her as much as you have to to keep up on things because had I waited I might not have known that my application was incomplete until all of the slots were full!
Thanks for your response at least I know it isn't just me. I finally was able to speak to her by phone and she said she would let me know some time this week if she had everything for my application. I will be SO upset if my letters of recommendation get lost, but with my luck I am almost expecting it. I really hope I'm wrong. I just want to hear from them. I'm getting really anxious and its killing me.

Also, I have fingerprinting from my old job, I hope they can just send in the originals to them so I won't have these problems. . .
