I live in Sacramento, but don't know anything about the BON other than what they post on their website.

Hi!! How do you like Sacramento? I am from VA í ½í±Ží ¼í¿¾ And looking to move there once I finish school. (In a few years Any advice would be helpful!!! í ¾í´— Thanks!!

It's hot. Money is good and cost of living is cheap considering. You're an hour and a half to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. You'd probably want to get a couple years experience and then move because new grad jobs are tough to get. You could try rural areas like yuba though

Is the Sac area strict on BSN only for their hospital RN's?

Some hire ADNs. Experience counts more. UC Davis is kinda strict.

Sutter and Dignity Health will hire ADNs, but seem to prefer BSN also. UC Davis is a Magnet hospital so I think they have to hire BSNs.

Specializes in ICU.

If you have a BSN. Experience. UC Davis will call you right away. I wish I had known that a few years back.

Moving to Sacramento from out of state is the best thing that's happened to my nursing career. The pay is excellent compared to what you make in other states, and the nursing union is so strong that you will have fewer patients and, often, fewer random non-nursing-related task-y things required of you. All of my coworkers from out-of-state agree that the job is so much easier in Sacramento for 2.5-3x the pay.

Best perks of working in California/Sacramento:

- Patient ratios are strictly adhered to. I no longer have 2-3 ICU patients of my own PLUS my neighbor's patients when they go on break.

- Taking your break or being paid if you didn't get a break (which is practically never) is prioritized. It's not like other states where they only care if you clock out, not if you can actually step away. It's also an hour long meal break!

- Lift team comes around every two hours and helps you reposition your patient so you don't throw out your back.

- The pay in Sacramento is very high for being a smaller/cheaper California city. This partially has to do with its proximity to San Francisco, where the pay is higher but the cost of living is much, much higher. You make more in Sacramento than you do in Southern California even though the cost of living is higher there too.

These could be my exact words too. I used to live in Southern California and every once in a while I tell my friends down there they are nuts. I doubled my pay in 3 years with the move. Quality of life is soooo much better up here, just really hot for a few months but no place is perfect. Cheers fellow sacramento-an
