Anyone recently taken the NCLEX??

Published

The reason I ask is because although I will definitely study hard for the boards, I wasnt all that worried about it bc I am a good test taker and am pretty good at picking "the best answer" through common sense most of the time. My concern is that recently they have created different types of questions on the boards, specifically "check all that apply" type questions that are wrong if u dont check all of the right ones, and also an X marks the spot type of thing where u put an x at the right position to place things. Now Im starting to worry because I wonder if they are only throwing in a few of those or if a lot of the test will be like this.

If anyone has taken the boards in the last few months, please share your experience. thanks in advance!

First of all take a deep breath then let it out. The test is difficult but it is doable and the calmer you are the easier it will be. I took it in April and did get several choose all that apply questions, I tend to do poorly on those type of questions but I still managed to only take 75 questions on the test. Also don't freak if you take more then that you still very well could pass if you take all 265. What I did was to take the simulated test from Kaplan, which is very much like the NCLEX and saw the diffrent types of questions and how many I could do before I took a break, I found out my test skills nose dived after 50 qustions so on the test at 50 I took a 5 min breather/potty break and hit the test again. The short break helped and was all I needed to stay mentally focused and relaxed. 85 percent pass the test the first time and if you put the time in to study and take care of your health prior to the test you will do well also. Good luck and remember to breath. :twocents:

I just took the NCLEX PN on Aug 2, and I got quite a few medication questions, like " If your patient's physician prescribed X-drug, which of the following other medications do you anticipate to be ordered as well." Those weren't very fun questions to answer. I also got 4-5 "pick all that apply" type questions, 2 med calc questions, and a lot of "prioritization" type questions. The worst was waiting to find out how I did because I'm in California. No early "unofficial" results for me! I did finish in 85 questions.

P.S. BTW, I just found out that I had PASSED! :balloons: :balloons:

Now to change my user name...... :chuckle

i took the boards last month (in MN) so the questions run from 85 to 205, and felt like most people, that none of the content i had studied was on there, and nothing was even remotely close to it, but for some odd reason i passed ! when i thought for sure i had failed it. I didn't get any check all that apply questions, no fill in the blanks, no math questions, and no place an x on the spot either, just all multiple choice questions, which i found really weird compared to what they get us geared up for in class. Anyways, hope this helps you, and i'm sure you'll do exceptionally well, it's all common sense anyways, so don't get too stressed out. oh, and the test may also have "experimental" questions that do not affect your mark, but are only there to see how people respond to them to determine if they will be used on future exams.

Hello, same name as me LOL. I'm sure you will be fine. I'm sure you have already read my posts about the nclex but if you can use your common sense and your nursing knowledge you will be fine. That's exactly how I am. also normally I don't freak out on test but the whole process of nclex (fingerprinting, cameras, etc.) intimadated me. I could see my heart pounding underneath my shirt! The girl in front of me for the nclex also was hopping back and forth from one foot to the othe and sort of bouncing in place lol. Its just ALL emotional. NO matter how much you study or what you know nothing prepares you for it. However feeling confident in yourself and believing that you can do it is HUGE and YOU can do it! Honestly I graduated June 23rd and forgot to sign my money order which slowed the prcoess then my ATT was late getting to me and then when I scheduled it was 3 weeks before I could test. All but five including myself had took the nclex and passed. Only one person in my class failed and there are two left to take it. This is out of a class of 29 I think. Anyway I just didn't feel like I was ever going to get to take my boards was so stressed out and didn't even study until I got my test date. So I had basically three weeks to study and studied FOUR times! It was stupid but once I took the NCLEX I realize that studying had nothing to do with it. What you learn in school and common sense is what get you throught SERIOUSLY. Those questions on NCLEX are nothing like any of those books no matter what they say. I had 82 or 86 questions and quite a few new format ones which were fill in the blank (math) and then check all that apply which seemed hard as heck. However, before I ever took the nclex I felt I would make a good nurse and knew what I was talking about as far as my level of education on nursing would allow me. Then I have common sense. YOU will be fine. Try not to panic although it's almost inevitable. DONT drink coffe before you go (I did) even if you do it every morning. Good luck to you and oh I just took the nclex on the 8th and found out I passed on the 9th so this is all new information. GOOD LUCK to you, you'll be perfectly fine, the test is made to test "you" in a way to pass you knowing everyone has different strengths in specific areas. Happy Nursing from luvfornursing :)
