I have talked to some others here about this but can't find my thread..anyway, I wanted to know what job duties I could expect if I get this job...also, do the inmates play tricks and stuff on new nurses? My hubby insists that I'm a softie and that they will take advantage of me.Thanks in advance!

I interviewed for a prison job but decided it wasn't for me. I hope it works out for you.
I was hoping someone could tell me more about working in corrections. I'm still a student, but would like to start off in corrections. I've heard the benefits are really good. I'm looking for good health insurance and seeing as I'm just about 40, I need a good pension. I've heard that you don't have to deal with a lot of families getting nasty and you shouldn't have a real happy bedside manner (at least working there).
I would really like to hear what its really all about. Anybody that can clarify and give me a real scenario, I will be so thankful.
Thank you for moving the thread...I'm still kind of new here and I didn't realize there was already a corrections forum...sorry to inconvenience anyone!
I hope I do get the job not only for experience but it would just be something different than my nursing home jobs. At my last nursing home job, we had about 5 residents who were "psych" residents; they were all manipulative and awful to the staff...so perhaps I can draw a bit on my experiences there and apply them to this job if I get it. I'm only hoping for one weekend a month and PRN.
Blessings, Michelle
P.S. for those that are in corrections nursing already, what do you do?
