If so, what department, what was your starting pay, how was/is the orientation period, and how do you like the job in itself? Thanks! I look foward to working there when I graduate in 2010:)
Hi Renee4Christ and others,
I know it's been a while since anyone posted on this thread, but I wanted to answer some questions. Currently, the starting pay for new grads is $22.08 (BS) or $21.44 (AS) without differentials. In addition to wages, there is a tuition reimbursement option and loan repayment. To answer the previous question about overtime, overtime is allocated based on the unit and their budget.
There are 7 Graduate Nures programs with varying lengths. Critical Care (12-16 weeks), ED (12-16 weeks), Operating Room (20 weeks), M/S (8-9 weeks), Oncology (10 weeks), Perinatal (8-21 weeks), Peds/PICU/NICU (11-17 weeks). For more information about the internship programs, the website is www.linktoyourfuture.com.
You can apply online for the GN programs up to 2 months before graduating. You will need a nursing degree and BLS, but once you are accepted, you will be trained and certified depending on the program you're in.
Florida Hospital is an Adventist organization. The mission is to incorporate a holistic view of caring for every patient. Something neat about the hospital is that they have daily "Energizers" that keeps the units connected through campus and system news. Most units take that time to share both personal and professional updates. Prayer is not something that the hospital shies away from, and the mission to "extend the healing ministry of Christ" is evident throughout the hospitals, although, every employee is entitled to their beliefs and can choose not to participate in prayer.
Hope to hear from you! Congrats on nearing the end of nursing school.
I have a question! When I applied to do the new grad internship over at Florida Hospital, I was put on a waiting list. Now I have my license, but am still a new nurse, of course. Are their internships for people such as myself there? I would so move south to be part of something in Pediatrics.
Gwyneffar,
Of course there are internships for people like yourself! Unfortunately, right now, the only GN internship that is available is through the ED. Internships are posted frequently, and I know that you must apply for each internship separately on the FL Hospital careers site, www.floridahospitalcareers.com. Hope this helps!
I looked for the posting, but couldn't find it in the search over at the hospital's web page. I'm up for anything; ED could be a great learning experience! Another question: on the job posting for Pediatric RN jobs (not the internship) it doesn't say anything about how much prior experience is needed. Would it be prudent to apply for something like this or would I be wasting my time?
Unfortunately, FH has a limited number of GN Internships at this time. I wish there were more. I'm sorry you couldn't get to it. They are posted online for only a short period of time. I recommend visiting the website and doing an RSS Feed or signing up for a Job Alert, which sends instant updates to your email so that you can apply for the GN Internships immediately. Also, about the Peds job postings, I know FH does require 1 year of recent experience for RN positions.
Hi Molly!
I've applied for every GN position Florida Hospital has opened in the last month. The last ones I applied were for Med Surg and Cardiac PACU ( Altamonte). They have not replied. Do you think I should call somebody? I went to the HR last week, but they didnt give me any real new info. I really wanted to start working soon. Its seems that you know a lot, so I thought maybe you could help me. Thank you so much!
:)
