Anyone with a misdemeanor on their record applying for new RN license??

Published

I wrote a bad check in Oct. 2006 (thought it was okay, but apparantly didn't have the funds in my account) for less than $15.00. I moved about 2 weeks after that. I didn't have any idea about it until Oct. 2007 when I got something in the mail saying I had a warrant out for my arrest. I IMMEDIATELY went and paid the fines/fees and it was dismissed, but I still have the "arrest" showing up on my record. It was a misdemeanor charge. I reported it to the BON here in Mississippi on my application. I took my boards last Wednesday (6/4/08) and still no sign of pass or fail. Nothing showing up on the BON website and nothing in the mail. All the documents from the court and myself have been submitted to the BON. The board won't tell me a time frame.

Two questions:

1) Will I even be able to get a license with that on my record?

2) How long will it take for me to find out if I passed/failed my boards??

Thanks for any help, as I am REALLY worried about this!!

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

* Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?

* Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?

* What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?

* Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?

* Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?

* What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?

These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing.
