hey future nurses :)
I passed my TEAS and did all my financial aid stuff but they are going to call me in abut 1 week to finalize the financial aide. They said the most will be 14,000 that they would cover. The school is $24,000 for the LPN... I KNOW ITS SUPERRRR EXPENSIVE. anyway, my question is, they said that the rest of the money i would pay back to the school weekly or monthy.. does that mean AFTER i gradute? or during the school year? thanksss

Hi, I have never heard of this school, so I cannot help you. But I just want to comment that 24k for LPN is ridiculous. I would never advise any of my friends seeking an LPN degree to pay that much money. I mean, even for an ADN, 24k is expensive, and RNs in FL make almost if not double than LPNs do, from my understanding.
I don't know if you have looked at other schools for LPN. I know there are many that I don't know of. I think Mercy Hospital has a really good program and it really is good because you can get a job there. I hope this makes you think because 24k in this economy is a lot to pay and for a lesser degree.
Do you know the accreditation of this school?
By the way I think you'd have to pay 6 months after your graduate, if its a Stafford Loan. Good luck.
Hi!! thanks for responding. The cost is $24,000 but financial aide covers $14,000. I have checked other schools, and they are all the same price more or less. Thanks for the info!

I beg to differ with other schools having the same or more/less cost. The school you have chosen is a private school, which is why you are paying that astronomical price. LPN school is 10-12 months, so you should be paying roughly $2-3K per program. List of schools offering the program: MDC, Mercy, Robert Morgan, Lindsey, and Miami Lakes Technical. If you are willing to travel to Broward County: McFatter, Sheridan, and Atlantic Technical are some options. I'd suggest you think about this very thoroughly especiallly since you may want to become a RN in the future.
$24K for a certificate program is RIDICULOUS...and it's not a degree! Here's an example, my bachelor's degree from UF cost me about $46 total including grants, loans, and scholarships; but I owe $20K in student loan. I have a master's degree that I owe $10K. I'm currently going into a accelerated nursing program at MDC and I will probably pay $5-7K for that program alone. But all in all, I have the degrees that make it worth paying the loans every month. Currently, a lot of hospital aren't employing LPNs', so you're limited to nursing homes and they don't pay as well. So, will you be able to pay this loan back? More importantly, will you want to, knowing that the certificate does not carry the weight of a degree and yet you owe so much?
Look:eek:!...I want you to do some serious research about this before you commit!!!! Plus, you need to ask yourself whether this is a legitimate school, because I've never heard of this school and I was born and raised in Miami my whole life and I'm almost 30! There are a lot of schools taking advantage of this Nursing craze and people desperate enough are falling for it. Further, let's say you go through with this program, will you be able to sit for the PN boards? Just because you fulfill a program stating you're an LPN, does not mean the Florida Board of Nursing will recognize this school and if it is not recognizable, you will not sit for boards, which means you will not work because you are not certified. Then what? Do your research as you will be the one stuck with a bill!
As for the payment plan, with the school being private and their loan possibly being private (not federally funded), you may have to pay every semester...which is a red flag! If it is federally funded, you will be decreasing the amount allotted to you as a degree seeking student; meaning, when the federal goverment offers financhial aid, you are allotted a package which is based on a 4-yr degree or 120 credits and the amount is capped. So, if you're allotted $30 in aid (loans, grants, and/or scholarships) and this school is costing you $10K out of pocket, you only have $20K to possibly get an associates or bachelors. But since LPN is a certificate, I'm pretty sure Saber is giving you private loans because the federal government does not fund certificate programs. One more question--how is the $14k being funded? meaning is it a grant, scholarship, or loan? If loans, is the remaining $10k out of pocket costs?
I've rambled enough and I know I don't know you, but I feel I need to help you ask the necessary questions:D. If this helped, I'm glad; if not, ignore this post. Either way, I wish you the best in your quest to find answers.

Hi!! I do know that school and I hate it. I went there 'cause they offer reviews for foraing nurses, and I can tell you that they are not there to help students, they just want to make money. They advised me to take the reviews ($750)and when I was already enrolled I learned by some students that before taking the reviews I should have done a lot of things like translate the tittles, etc. They were aware of what I had to do, but they just didn't tell me. Later I went there because I wanted to do the lpn, but after all the research I've done I wouldn't take that school, and for that amount of money...well if o were you I would give it a second thought. Now I'm enrolled at MDC, this fall I'm starting my pre-requisits for nursing, RN of course, and for much less than what you are going to pay I will end up with an Associate in science and an RN licence, while you only will get a diploma. So I ask you again to sleep on it. It's to much money and I don't believe that's a good school whatsoever. Good luck!!!
By the way,do you mind if I ask you where are you from?

I'm thinking about going back to Miami to live sometime next year. I'm graduating with my LPN and was trying to see about getting my RN at Mercy Hospital, but I don't know much about that area. Can you enlighten me? Thanks

dont even waste ur time applying at mercy, im an A student and i applied and didnt get me cuz they pick their own employees, thats how they work it( i got some inside info, to know this), Saber may not be the best school around BUT the only thing you really need is one that will let you seat for the boards, once you become an RN all the necessarily experience will be learned on the floor, Good luck......
you are better off going to Miami Dade College or any other public institution here in Miami. Don't bother going to Mercy if you plan on advancing your education. Some credits aren't transferable.

I am attending SABER SCHOOL, this school is not that bad, yes it is kind of expensive but you dont have to spend 2 years making pre-requisites to attend the program, all you have to do is pass the teas exam, now they have the lpn and rn program and in the future they are going to have the rn bsn program. The school is not bad at all, and they help you and try to pass the students..It is an accredited school, i have some friends who have graduated from saber and are working in hospitals.
