  1. I sure do hope some authoritative personnel steps in and order them to pay back these people, this is just sad all the way around, teachers haven't been paid with all the money that they took for tuition?.. I hope something good happens so
  2. This is so sad! MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (WSVN) -- The president and founder of Dade Medical College and the University of Southernmost Florida announced Friday that all campuses and the corporate offices have closed for good, leaving students, faculty and staff demanding answers. Ernesto Perez sent a letter to students and staff announcing the immediate closure of the schools. He did not give a reason why. When 7News arrived at the Miami Lakes campus, Friday afternoon, approximately 30 students were standing outside, some for class and others to inquire about the e-mail they received announcing the campuses' closure. Some of them chanted, "We want our degree" over and over. "I actually showed up today because I had lab today from 1 to 10 [p.m.]," said student Irene Pantoja. "As soon as we walked in, the professor said that she was not going to give us class 'cause she hasn't been paid for the last three weeks, and then she sent us on lunch break." An hour or so later, the doors at six campuses were locked for good. "On our lunch break, we received an e-mail stating that the school was closed," said Pantoja. In his letter, Perez stated that all six campuses, from South Florida to Jacksonville, would close Friday afternoon. It read in part, "Today it is with great sadness that I must announce that Dade Medical College and the University of Southernmost Florida will be closing, effective October 30, 2015, across all of our campuses and our corporate offices." "I used to work here, until today at 2 p.m.," said Ramon Gonzalez, a professor of anatomy and physiology. More than 500 professors and staff have been left unpaid for weeks of work. "The last paycheck was completely unfunded in the bank ... it was fake," said Gonzalez. Employees were instructed to file for unemployment immediately. One student said she received an e-mail from her professor stating she also recently found out about the closing. In the e-mail, she asked students to refrain from contacting her, referring them to the corporate office instead. Approximately 2,000 students attended the two-year college, and more than 500 employees worked there. Some have worked at this college since it opened its doors in 1999. Even though professors' last paychecks didn't clear, tuition payments to the college were still cashing out from student's bank accounts on Friday night. "For me to get that diploma in my hands from the school, I had to be in zero debt, zero balance from the school, which right now, I'm [at] zero balance," said student Elizabeth Gonzalez. Elizabeth said she was just two weeks from walking at graduation, after having paid $47,000. Another student told 7News that she only had three classes left to graduate. Many students are in a similar situation and must find another way to get their college degree. "This was a next step for me, for better living for my kids, and they took that away," said student Joanne Saint Tolbert. One student said they found a flier for another college placed on the campus door. These colleges may be willing to step in and help the students take the next steps to graduating. Students are so desperate for answers that a handful of them showed up at Perez's Coral Gables home, Friday night. "Who's going to give us the money back? Who's going to credit our classes?" said a student. Even there, they got no answers. 7News called Perez at his home, and the person who answered said they would pass along the message. Students and faculty members said they plan to return to several of the campuses Monday morning to demand their transcripts and paychecks.
  3. Don't know anything about that particular school, but i went to the allen school, off/on Jamaica ave, this was a while ago (over 10 years) so you might have to research them, the program was decent from what i can remembered
  4. I think at barry, nova and fiu you'll be getting a baccalaureate, at mdc you get associates then you can bridge to BSN, they are all good but you start by deciding what degree you want, since cost is not a factor then why not get your BSN
  5. if nursing is not meant for someone i'm pretty sure they will realize it sooner or later, its not for me to put down another poster, offer your advice, let the individual try as many time as s/he wish, it's not my job to tell the person nursing is for him or her... isn't that the reason nursing school have standards? to weed out the ones who are not fit to be nurses?, isn't that what the NCLEX is for, or is it the job for the "GODS OF NURSING" to tell people that nursing is not for them. given the standards of most nursing nursing school, then the national exam, and employers, how easy is it to have an incompetent nurse? now I'm not saying that they don't exist (there are incompetent people in all profession) but how long do they last?
  6. I'm sorry that not everyone grasps things as fast as everyone else, so I guess the lesson is to give up after a few failed attempts? REALLY?
  7. my .02cents, I agree that nursing is not for everyone, at the same time not everyone grasp things easily, if this(nursing) is something the OP wants really bad s/he will figure out a way to get it, the good thing is that s/he has figured out what his/her weak points are, and therefore trying to get help on how to do better... To the OP don't be discouraged, I cannot tell you exactly how to grasp what you need to because everyone's style of learning is different but if you have to put the extra time to study then do so.
  8. as the other posters before have said it can be done, but only do so if you are going to put in the effort and time to study if you don't think you'll have the time to study then i suggest you do them separate, the OP seem to have allot oh her plate...with that said do you think you are going to have the extra hours per day to study? well whatever you choice good luck with your classes.
  9. depending on the questions and if you are comfortable enough to ask here, you might be able to get some answers from some of the students on here, I do not go to Miami Dade so i cant help you further but hopefully someone will good luck.
  10. I'm not sure about California laws as i'm from NY and now residing in FL, but about the financial aid where i go to school you have to be over 24 or be able to prove that you are independent, which means you might need to show that you file your own taxes or they might have other ways to prove independence, the above poster stated about having to be a citizen, I'm not sure if that is true, I have a male friend who is a resident and not a citizen and he is still able to get financial aid. you might want to ask the school adviser when u get there, the $36 might just be the application fee, I also think its best to wait till after the 1 year, this way you'll be able to pay in-state tuition.
  11. Hi Rocketberger first off welcome to the board and welcome to America, i see you are doing your research which is good, OK i'll try my best to give you as much information as I can, since you are coming from out of the country you need to first figure out what community college you are going to attend, take your high school transcript to that college and have it evaluated, from there they will be able to tell you what classes you might need to take, as for tuition I'm not quite sure exactly what the cost is going to be but the cost are on a per credit hour basis (at my college its approximately $100 with parking and other fee's included for instate students per credit hr, each class on average is worth 3 credit hrs, costing approximately $300) I also noted your age which might not qualify you for financial aid, but I think if you could prove that you are independent you might be able to qualify, but first things first you need to figure out where u want to go to college then make an appointment to go see an adviser if you have more specific questions feel free to ask i will try my best to answer.
  12. @2byoungnurse2011 who is the accreditation by if you dont mind me asking? Just curious.
  13. Another thing as the previous poster said, please get some rest try to get a good night sleep before you start on your list, this way you'll be energized and ready to go.
  14. I think u need to make a list of the things you have to do, choose one day when you are not so busy(maybe on the weekend) and then try to do most of what you have on your list. As busy as you are if I were you I wouldn't bother to attend those wedding party's, you have to put your priorities first, your friends and family will understand. As for your house when you get a chance clean and organize in a way that it's easy for you to access what you need, what I usually do before school starts I clean up get rid of stuff I don't need/unnecessary clutter. Try your best to make sure everything is packed the night before so you don't have to spend time looking for them in the morning. Hope that helps, Good luck
  15. Those classes get full very fast, you have to keep looking online incase someone drops the class, but if the advisor says the class is full more than likely it's full Good luck.
