Anyone know any non-traditional RN jobs in Las Vegas?

Nurses General Nursing

I've been a Psychiatric floor nurse for 6 years, mostly inpatient.

I'm thinking of trying something new but have no interest in hospital settings, clinics, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any less traditional RN jobs available in the Las Vegas Valley. Mobile assessment, case management, tele nursing, PR, maybe something I have never heard of?

Maybe even something that doesn't necessarily require a nursing degree or license but that I would be qualified for? I was once told by a patient that ran a dispensary that they employed nurses.

I'm pretty burnt out on floor nursing. I'm considering returning to school for PMHNP. If not, my days in the field may be nearing an end as I look for something else.

Sounds like you already identified several potential career paths. Are you looking for specific job reqs?

I guess I was hoping for any locals to possibly weigh in.

Ive been searching jobs but am only really finding traditional stuff.

Was also hoping maybe someone would mention a position or field I hadn't even thought of.

I am a Las Vegas local. You could consider IV infusion therapy. The nurse goes around all the big hotels in town and gives hydrating solutions through the IV, various electrolyte mixes. Examples such as giving those services to certain celebrities, famous teams that come to town, etc. My friend works in it and says it pays very well and it's an enjoyable job. You must have good IV skills to do it, of course.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Pediatric Float, PICU, NICU.

This was going to be suggestion as well. I've never lived in Vegas, but when I lived in Phoenix it was definitely our second home as it was a hop skip and jump away. I was actually with a friend one alcohol-filled weekend when they decided to try the mobile IV hydration therapy, and once I talked to that nurse and found out details about pay, work, etc it was definitely something I would have done if I was a local!

I was just going to say the same thing! I watched the latest Jersey Shore the other night after my daughter begged me to. The only positive thing to come of that was witnessing a mobile IV infusion unit that came to their digs to help them out after a night of drinking. I imagine that there would be a pretty darned good market for that in Las Vegas! :D

Specializes in OB.

I will "fourth" what you said, the first thing that came to my mind with Las Vegas and non-traditional nursing jobs was those hangover-mobiles!

I could be wrong in the OP's case, but psych nurses generally aren't known for their IV skills.

Have you checked with disaster relief services? Mental health rns are sometimes employed to provide and plan for community crisis support.

She can easily learn that skill.
