It's been ages since I graduated from nursing (BSN) and was wondering if anyone here with similar experience.
I'm currently working full-time with an MBA in Electronic Business and decided to change careers. I took my first NCLEX RN in 1990 and did not pass. Since then, we moved overseas and all over the US due to my ex being in the military.
2 years ago, I decided it was time for a change and started my paperwork with CA BON. Been studying on and off and I've attended Hurst and Kaplan live reviews, which for me, were quite helpful. I will be taking NCLEX June 11th and extremely nervous especially since I'm not working in nursing/medical field. Seems like no matter how much I study, nothing sticks....well, some :). I've been using Exam Cram, La Charity, Hurst and Kaplan QT. My Ipad2 and cell phone are loaded with IBooks and test questions for on-the-go study.
Anyone out there with similar experience? I would love to hear your story.
God Bless

There was someone else with a similiar situation who posted recently. Don't recall them coming back to say whether they passed NCLEX. Glad to see you are going through with getting your license and hope you are successful the first time.
Thank you for responding and well wishes :thankya:
All I can do is study, pray, study, pray, study and pray some more.:saint:
I'll definitely provide an update after I take the test.
Do not beat up on yourself if you feel it is taking you longer to prepare. You have to give yourself credit for even trying this and realize that you have to make up for all the forgetting you have done in those years. Good luck.

Hi begosh,
WOW! It wasn't 10 years, but 2 years for me. They revamped the test between the 2 times I took it in 2009 and when I passed in Feb 2011. I'd highly recommend memorizing the infection control mnemonic on this website before you take it.
Every 3 years they seem to devote a good chunk of questions from specific areas. For the 2007 test plan (I was told) it was the endocrine system. Of course, any system is fair game, but I had many, MANY IC questions on my test. Per the "contract" I can't divulge verbatim test questions (which I still remember), but you'd do yourself a great service by looking at the mnemonic. Don't focus solely on it, however, as I had questions that made me feel as though I was standing out in left field facing the stands.
That said, keep reviewing and remember: you don't have to know everything! Basics in all areas is all you need. I'd also recommend a prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino. My post "long time lurker...first time poster" has a few that ensured my success in passing. All the best!

first prayer
o great st. joseph of cupertino who while on earth did obtain from god the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which i am now preparing. in return i promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.
through christ our lord.
st. joseph of cupertino, pray for us.
amen.
second prayer
o st. joseph of cupertino who by your prayer obtained from god to be asked at your examination, the only preposition you knew. grant that i may like you succeed in the (here mention the name of examination) examination.
in return i promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.
o st. joseph of cupertino pray for me
o holy ghost enlighten me
our lady of good studies pray for me
sacred head of jesus, seat of divine wisdom, enlighten me.
and here's an extra one for good measure:
prayer to st. joseph of cupertino for success in examinations
o humble st. joseph of cupertino, singularly favored by god in overcoming the difficulties of study and the worries of examinations, implore the holy spirit to enlighten my mind and strengthen my memory in the search of his truth and wisdom. help me especially in the decisive moments of this examination, protecting me from that forgetfulness and disturbing anxiety which often affect me. may i succeed in offering god my finest work and may i grow in knowledge, understanding, humility and charity. may everything that i attempt to learn in life be offered in faithful service to god, from whom flows that wisdom which leads to eternal life. amen.
st. joseph of cupertino, pray for me.
our lady of good studies, pray for me.
holy spirit, enlighten me!
