Anyone got hired through the Nursing Graduate Guarantee Initiative?

I knew of three people in 2010 who were hired. At the end of the initiative, all three were not hired on due to lack of funding.

I applied to 6 HFO positions, gave up and decided to leave the Province for a permanent position. That worked for me.

That's just unfortunate. From getting hired to losing your job instantly because of lack of funding.

I know it's a tight competition but I'm still going to apply for New Graduate positions, we'll never know I might be able to snag one.

Where do you work now if you don't mind me asking? Which province?

Alberta. When I moved here, oil was over 100 dollars a barrel. Now people are leaving the Province in search of work elsewhere.

I got hired through the initiative as an RPN, and have been offered a position through the initiative on my same unit as an RN. The program is great....I was with a preceptor for 6 months so I felt I had a lot of support and was very comfortable by the time I was on my own. The only thing is, rarely do people get offered a full time job afterwards - even though that is the promise of the program. I was offered a casual position when I was finished as an RPN, and then had to work my way up...I was casual for many months, then took a temp part time, and now I have a permanent part time (took me about 2 years to get that). Now, because I am graduating as an RN, I go right back down to the bottom.

Another thing is many new grad positions will be posted with a prior intent to hire a specific person, like someone who had their consolodation there. I know for me, a new grad was posted specifically with the intent of hiring me (because i did my placement there), even though there were probably 100s of applicants.

I was hired as an NGG on my floor after doing my consolidation there;after that I was hired on the same floor as casual.

Sounds like I have little to no chance then if they wanted someone who did their consolidation there.

Either way, I'll take that small chance and maybe I'll be lucky. It says on the NGGI job posting that they'll be hiring 12 people.

vintagePN: Congratulations, you're gonna be an RN soon. That is my plan in the near future. Work as an RPN in a year or two, save up some money and pursue my RN.

There have been NGG's on my floor that did not do their consolidation here so it's possible;just apply to every NGG posting and you may get lucky and get a call for an interview. I also applied to other NGG posting as back up (I literally applied to every single posting on the site) and was able to get calls from 2 other facilities that I have never had placements in.

theRPN2b: I applied to the majority of the posting on the NGGI website (There are tons in Hamilton, so if I need to relocate there, I wouldn't mind. - I live in Toronto)

I will be taking my CPNRE next week so I hope that I'll pass! Any tips on how to succeed this registration exam? How do you tackle/break down a nursing/critical thinking question?

Currently working as an HFO (RN).

I got the job before I wrote the NCLEX, but didn't start UNTIL i got my license.

I didnt consolidate there either, but i previously worked on that particular unit doing psw work.

I got interview for NGG where I did my consolidation. Can you give me any tips, what kind of questions they may ask?

Hi I started my first nursing job as NGG and they offered me a FT medsurg job after that but I quit cuz I wanted PT. Then I moved to AB and I got another FT job offer... I think PT is harder to find than FT for some reasons
