Anyone going to Wallace in Selma vs. Troy in Montgomery

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm torn between Wallace and Troy (both school of nursing). I'm planning to go to the Troy school of nursing, but i'm afraid I might not get in; i've had to start from the lowest math (0096) because i'm a bit rusty. I've told that @ Troy you can't take Anatomy I or any nursing courses (except nutrition) without taking Pre-calculus first, well I wouldn't have a problem with that if I didn't have to start at the bottom of the barrel and work my way up to pre-cal. Troy has switched their Biologys and Maths to semester long instead of A and B terms, therefore it ill be the summer before I can take pre-cal. I'm afraid they may throw my application to the side when they see that I had to start from the lower math and that i'm no where pre-cal i'm in 1100.

At Wallace, you can go straight into A&P without having to complete the math first, therefore I can knock out math and A&P in the same semester. The tuition is cheaper, but the drive is longer (approx. 1hr)

I'm completely confused. Is there anyone out there that attends Wallace that could possibly give me some insight about the school? Or anyone out there with any type of advice who has been through the same thing or similar with any school?

I know ppl that went to Troy and to Wallace in Selma. I went to Wallace. I graduated in May 06 and no matter where you go the pre-req's are YUCK! I know all nursing programs in the state are supposed to be the same now right? Wallace only has ADN but doesn't Troy have BSN and ADN? Is there any difference with the pre-req's at Troy? I personally loved Wallace. It was a hard school but we had ppl drive 1-2.5 hrs daily just to go there. Just my 2 cents!

I may be wrong about this but I read that Wallace ADN grads can get a BSN from the University of Alabama (Capstone College) completely online. That's what I read on the Dothan campus website anyway.

Yes Troy in Troy has a BSN, but in order to receive your ADN, you have to attend Troy in Montgomery. I know all colleges have pre-reqs, but some required more than others. I know Wallace doesn't require as many, therefore getting through is faster, although i'm sure it's just as tough. Thanks for the information. What getting in hard? How long did it take for you to receive your acceptance letter? Is there a waiting list? How long is the program including pre-reqs? I'm sure that i'm flooding you with Q's, but it's so much easier to speak with former or present student than to speak with the staff.

Wow! Do you have the link? I would love to check it out.

This spring, Wallace is starting an evening ADN program. Applications were available today at the Dothan office as well as at the website. From what I can see, looking at the packet, the only prereq is completion of BIO 103 with a "D" or better, or a passing score on an approved exam. As far as the math requirement, the student must be eligible for Math116 which is determined by either exam or completion of basic math.
