Hi I was just curious if anyone is attending CSN (college of Southern Nevada) this semester? I will be taking Bio 189 on Tues/Thurs at 9:30a-10:50p Lab will be on Wend at 2:30p also taking additional classes Art 160 (online), PSY 101 (Online), PHIL 101 (Tues 6:00p-8:50p) and SOC 102 (Thurs 6p-8:50p). All of my classes are at the Cheyenne campus. I am so excited ordered all my books today but I think it would be so neat if I knew someone taking the same classes at the same time.

I was hoping you would get some replies from those just starting out on pre reqs just as you are. I have been taking pre reqs for a couple of years now at CSN, the Charelston campus. I have only a couple of classes to go. You are lucky to have gotten into Bio189. It is a hard class to get into. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions, I will try to help.:)
Thanks Butterfly for the reply! I actually have a a dumb question in regards to classes. What on earth do I bring? Will I need notebooks or my laptop? I have taken some college classes already but they were all distance education courses for another school so I am beyond nervous. I am going from being a Junior in a 4 year college to practically starting over lol. I was pursuing a Bachelors in Business Management.
Anyways I totally lucked out on bio 189 I just kept searching every few hours for like 5 days lol
How do you like CSN? Also, what degree are you trying to obtain? My overall goal is a BSN either from NSC or the UNLV 16 month program is also very appealing.
How important is the student orientation would you say?
Good luck with everything and I will definitely stay in touch :)
Hi...as far as what you should bring, I have seen only a couple of people bring a laptop to class. Most just bring a notebook with paper and for lab be sure to print out the lab manuals and bring to class. Do you know how to log onto angel and sign into your classes? Even though Bio189 is not a distance ed class you will still need to login to print these papers. So far I have really liked CSN, but then again I have never attended NSC or UNLV.
I am going for my ADN in nursing. I may decide to to the RN-BSN bridge in the future, but my main goal it to just get my RN as soon as I can. After all I am not getting any younger. Had I done this 15-20 years ago I probably would have also gone directly for my BSN.
As far as orientation goes, are you meaning the health orientation or just the initial orientation for those new to CSN? Back in 2008 when I initially submitted my application and received my student ID they didn't offer the new student orientation. However, if you are meaning the new student orientation if I were you I don't think I would go being that you have already attended college before and therefore know what to expect out of college life. I personally think the new student orientation is for people who have never attended college at all, like high school graduates. That is what I think anyway, but totally up to you.
So, are you new to this site? I would absolutely love to keep in touch and being that I am a little ahead of you I will be more than happy to pass along any pointers or info I think would benefit you as you move along in the biology classes. My best advice for Bio189 is to make sure you set aside time to study, study, study. This class is not like any of the other classes you will need to take. There is so much information to be learned and this class especially will be the foundation for the rest of the biology classes ( Bio223 & Bio224 )you will be taking, not to mention the nursing classes in general. From everything I have read on this site, Anatomy and Physiology is soooo important for understanding that learned in nursing school, and Bio189 is the foundation for A&P. So, good luck and keep in touch..:)
Hi Butterfly! Whew it has been crazy since I posted last. I ended up having to switch my major to the Associates of Science Degree for Financial aid purposes so that they would cover my classes so I spent a whole day at the school waiting to speak to a counselor which in my opinion was a total waste of time. Granted she had to sign my degree sheet but other than that offered nothing else. I pretty much pegged a degree program to fit my classes before I came in (I have always been a do-it-myself kind of girl) lol. I skipped the orientation too. Anyways, plus side is I am ready to go on the 24th. I figure in regards to what I should bring to class that I will keep it simple the 1st day and just bring a notebook and something to write with and go from there (I was also thinking of recording the BIO lecture as it seems that alot of information/material will need to be learned in a short time. I am extremely nervous as to if I am going to pull this off with having so much on my plate now but thankfully I am not working so that is one less thing to worry about. Still, I am hopeful I will have quality study time with 4 children under the age of 7 here at home. My oldest is 6, my son 3 and my twin girls are 10 months. The twins doctor is a bit concerned that they might be suffering from mycrocephaly although they look completely normal to me and everyone else we have a multitude of doctors appointments to go to in the coming weeks. Just added stress. Anywho, I would absolutely love to stay in touch I am very new to allnurses (you were the 1st person to respond to my very 1st topic post) thank you! Hope all is well for you and thank you again for your advice and suggestions. Hope to hear from you again really soon.

Hi ! Congratulations on starting this Spring. I am also going to be starting as a pre-nursing student at the Charleston campus on August 29th. Since it was my first time registering, I did not get into the Bio 189 class. I will try again next semester. I would be interested to hear about your experiences in this class. I too attended an online university prior to CSN registration. I am looking forward to the more traditional approach to learning. The good news is I do not have to start at the bottom, with gen ed classes. But I will have to retake A&P 1 + 2, as my online science classes do not transfer. I am going to show up with a laptop, regardless of what others will have. I am a preparation junkie. Plus, it makes studying on campus much easier for me.
I wish you luck. I too am going to be reaching out to my fellow student through this site. I have a feeling we will be needing all the mutual support we can get. I really love this site. Inside information is crucial to success. Thanks for posting.
