Anyone go to school in Northern California

Hi, I am in Merced county, take classes at Modesto JC and Merced JC. All the school's in this area have RN programs. Sounds like you are in the Bay area. I would check out Samual Merrit -it is an expensive private school but they guarantee your entrance into clinicals if you do the prereqs at their sister schools (Mills college, and some others) It is $13,000 a semester (woah!) but I am considering it just to alleviate my stresses of getting in.

ohlone and the others you mentioned seem to have tight requirements.I am applying to Fresno state and jc.

I go to school at Las Positas in Livermore. I have micro left and than I can FINALLY transfer!! I also hear good things about Samuel Merritt, but it is VERY competitive - as all schools are!! I have applied everywhere, SF state, USF, cal state East Bay, CSU Stanislaus, SJSU, Merritt, EVERYWHERE!! Are you currently in the nursing program at Ohlone or are you still finishing up your pre reqs? I was just looking at their website at the nursing info. Do you like it there? I am hoping to get my BS, but I am applying at schools that offer an associates degree as well. I've applied to Chabot so far, but I am interested in Ohlone also! I also live in contra costa county! :)

HI THERE!!! i am currently taking all my pre-req's at Ohlone College. I finished A&P last fall and am going to take A&P II this spring. Ohlone just changed there requirements so that you are no longer able to apply to the program if you are taking any pre-req's in progress. You must have them all completed before applying. However, Chabot is the only school i know that let's you apply with one in-progress science course. I know that Ohlone has a really good program and that is why it is my number one choice! esp. since its only 5 minutes away!! however i knoe ppl who have applied 5 x's and havent got in and I know someone who applied and got in first try!!!

I am going to be going to Contra Costa College this Spring for my general education and prereq's. I hope that's a good school, I've never gone to college before. I am looking to get my English and Maths overwith first. :) I live in Contra Costa county too.

Are any of you applying for the Samuel Merritt ABSN program? If so, where are you getting your pathophysiology and pharmacology courses done? They require those 2 classes to be 3 units each, but most NorCali schools only offer 2 unit versions of thoses classes. (Luckily I was able to get into an online pharmacology class at Mira Costa College... but I'd rather actually sit in a class and learn the material.. I prefer teacher/student interaction over online schooling)

Correct me if I am wrong on this but during the summer there was an article in the Contra Costa Times about Las Positas College. They mentioned that there was a possibility of a nursing program starting up out there in the near future. Do you now anything about that Val000? If so, that would be great. You might not need to travel so far.

I finished Pathophysiology in the Fall with a strong A... but while I learned a lot, I felt like there was a little bit lacking from the knowledge I retained because I didn't get that extra bit of teacher-student interaction. I tend to like to learn basic stuff in a traditional classroom setting... so maybe it was just an issue for me...

To tell you the truth, if I had the option to take the class physically in a classroom (as opposed to virtually in an online setting), I would have chosen the classroom in a heartbeat. I was hoping to be able to audit a 2 unit pathophysiology class this semester, but none of the local Community Colleges here are offering it... and the only pharmacology class I could find was online (which doesn't really help since I'm already enrolled in an online one). Lately, I've been making little web guides for myself while reviewing a lot of my previous classes (for self enrichment).. I'm probably going to do the same for the things I learned in Pathophysiology.

Luckily, my CNA teacher was previously a teacher for an LVN program, and he's always been helpful to me whenever I had a question, so I can always go to him for help. For the Patho class, though, my support was mostly the CNA teacher and family/friends already in the healthcare field... which helped a lot.

Yes, that would really help you becase the school is right in your backyard and it might help take some of the people that are on other wait lists. Let me know if you find anything out.
