Hello everyone! Is anyone currently attending Galen College of Nursing in St.Petesburg/Tampa Bay Area? If you aren't currently attending, but have in the past? I would love to here your feedback, too. I just wanted to know how you feel about the school and what your experience has been like. I will be taking my cpat at Galen tomorrow. I'm very excited and hopefully all goes well.

Piccolanurse....

How was your first week? Would love to hear about it!

Hello LynneMarie!!!!

Sorry I did not get to you before, but starting school and working full time really got my busy!!!!! School so far is great! at lot of information to digest, but the dynamic is good!!

I just completed my second week and survived!! :D....Test are starting soon! can't wait!! :p.

Ohh about the CPR.. we have to take an online portion of the test and then go for the actual hands on part, so far I passed the online test.

Let's keep in touch! If you have any questions, please let me know! Might not reply right awaym, but I will do my best!

The next class I believe starts September or very beginning of October... so if you want to go to Galen, you have plenty of time to get ready!

Take care girl and keep the plan going!!!!:nurse:

Piccolanurse,

That's great to hear! And I'm sure it's hard juggling both right now, and you said you have a child? I don't think I could do all that. I'm studying right now to take the entrance exam...I didnt do so well on the other schools entrance exam (but didnt really try to study all that much because I didnt want to go there) So I'm just studying until I feel prepared and then I'll call up to make an appointment to take it. HOPEFULLY I'll be accepted into the August class.

You have to let me know when you start clinicals and what that is like!!

Take care!

Piccolanurse,

I wish I had your e-mail so it would be easier to write you lol. I just took the PAX last Wednesday, and I passed!!! Now I am just waiting to hear back on whether or not I am accepted. I hope things are going well!! Take care!

Hi everyone! : ) I'm so glad to see some newer posts on here about Galen! I posted a thread that got zero response, so maybe you could help me? I am looking into their new RN program and hoping to start in November. I have at least three classes that should transfer in.

*With that said, what are your schedules like? I have a family of 5, (a husband, 3 girls, and myself), and we are actually moving from NH so I can go there.

*What are clinicals like?

*How often and where are they held?

*How big are your classes?

*Does anyone have any advice on where or where not to rent an apartment? A very nice Galen student on this forum has answered a lot of my questions, but unfoprtunately she lives 45 minutes away from campus so she wasn't able to give me any input on housing.

Your responses would be SO MUCH appreciated since I live so far away...I am relying on you Floridians for advice and I definitely trust it!!! :) Thank you!

Hi!!! I also live 45 mins away so I will be commuting everyday. From going over the Gandy bridge I saw maybe two apartments, they were on the water and cost like 900$ a month and I don't even know how many bedrooms that was. Other than that I'm not sure what's around there. Your best bet would be to google living either to rent or buy around Gandy, St. Pete area. It's also fairly close to the St. Pete Clearwater international airport too so that could be something that you put in to search. Wish I could be more help, I really don't know the area at all, that was my first time down around there when I went to see the school.

Class sizes from what I heard are small, up to about 25. I'm going for the LPN program to start off with so I'm not sure if they are the same with clinicals and stuff. But after I start I'm pretty sure into the 4th week we are already at hospitals. There is a list of a ton that they are partnered with. Some teachers draw names out of a hat to determine where you'll go, some let you pick, and others assign you depending on your address so you can get a closer hospital. I'm thinking in the beginning about 2 times a week, maybe 3. And I'm pretty sure its for a couple hours at a time too.

The thing that got me to decide Galen was their facility. They have AMAZING tools there. You wouldnt even need to go to a place for clinicals they basically have them on site. Dummys hooked up to machines that will actually breathe, crash, and give birth. They also have a PEDS section set up too!! And then another room with about 20 dummys on beds ready to be worked on!! I'll see if I can find more information out about apartments though!

You're awesome! Thank you so much for the information! We looked into The Coves near Gandy-they look beautiful but the ratings aren't very good. Galen's facility looks incredible-very state of the art! If you happen to come up with any other info you think might help, I would be so appreciative! Thanks again! :)

Hey everyone I am reading your posts about Galen, which I am really considering going there. I just took the TEAS At Erwin...But I missed the score by a .1%!!! I am just tired of waiting..I was looking to start Galen anytime after this coming December. Can anyone tell me how the entrance exam is for Galen? and Do they know of the classes opening in Dec, Jan, or Feb. I really want the one at night that is 5-10 but If I could get done faster with morning full time 8-5 I would love that! Please let me know. The only thing that has stopped me from going is the price and the drive to get there. The price because I already have school loans already, But I'm getting to the point I just want to get it. I moved here for Illinois about 1 year ago and was doing prereques for HCC but then I seen how hard it is to get in. Now that I've been here for a while I've talked and also work with so many people that have gone to Galen and love it. So please if anyone can give me any advice on any of those topics I posted please do!! Thanks!

Jessica,

Hello. I'm attending Galen in August. I'm soooo excited. I was hesitant at first too because of the drive. I live out in Valrico, right by Brandon. It'll be about a 45 minute WITHOUT traffic. It is also pricy, you're right, but I as well as you are ready to be done! I took the teas test at Erwin. I had signed up for it before I went to visit Galen. But as soon as I stepped in those doors and the admissions person took me on a tour I was sold, I absolutely fell in LOVE with the school. It has such a good set up. Dummies that crash, dummies that give birth, little baby dummies, it's amazing!!

I took the teas test and got a horrible score, I can't remember what it was but it was enough to BARELY pass. I didnt even try to go to school there because I figured there were so many other people who would get in before me and I'd be put on a waiting list so I concentrated on getting into Galen. I also felt like Erwin was VERY disorganized and had no idea what they were doing. (Figures that the more expensive one would huh?)

The test at Galen the PAX, I studied for for like 2 or 3 weeks, but just here and there. The study book helps a lot, the questions are the same. But the thing was is I felt like the test was just a way for them to get $50 out of you. I felt like I did horrible. I ran out of time on the math and seriously had to go back and bubble in like 15 questions on the computer. But I scored really well and was in the high percentile. You only need to score a 92 and I got a 111.

They start their programs 4 times I year I think, August, November, then I guess February, and May. The night classes take 15 months as apposed to 12 months if you go day time. I hope this helps some. But honestly make an appointment and go visit the campus and take a tour and then the admissions counselor will sit down and talk to you about costs and entrance exam and basically EVERYTHING else. And the thing that I was most surprised about was there was NO pressure at all!! So do that! Best of luck to you!

This is such great information! LynnMarie I wonder if we will be getting clinical information at orientation? I really want Bayfront. I heard ***** treats nursing students poorly(heard from previous Galen students) But i'm so excited! Just can't wait to start;)
