Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone! Is anyone currently attending Galen College of Nursing in St.Petesburg/Tampa Bay Area? If you aren't currently attending, but have in the past? I would love to here your feedback, too. I just wanted to know how you feel about the school and what your experience has been like. I will be taking my cpat at Galen tomorrow. I'm very excited and hopefully all goes well.

Johnsonny,

Do you know the answer to this....If I go to Erwin for the LPN program can I bridge over to Galen for their RN program?

I just took the Pax-PN at Galen and passed!!! I was so nervous since I just got one week to get ready for the test. I still need to wait for my acceptance letter, I'm enrolling in the evening class that starts May 14th. I can't wait to start!! I've been wanting to be a nurse for a little while now and finally took the first step!

I did a lot of research for schools and Galen, even though is expensive, it's definitely the best option for me... I'm 29 so I don't want to be on a waiting list, I want to start going already.

I will keep you posted !!!! Go for it!!!:D

piccolanurse....I JUST went to Galen yesterday to check out the school. Boy, I really wish I wouldn't have. This school is absolutely amazing. Did you find the test hard at all? I just ordered the book online to study. I'm also studying for the TEAS V that you take at Erwin for their LPN program. There is so many pros and cons to both and at this point I don't know what to do. I think it's mostly the expense and the longer drive to Galen each day that is holding me back. Hope to hear from ya soon.

Piccolanurse And why did you pick Galen? I wanna know all these answers to questions. Did you look at any other schools or just decide to go there from the very beginning? What kind of questions were asked during the interview? Just the generic ones? THANKS!!!

Hello LynneMarie02!!!

Well it took me a while to decide what school to go, I consired SPC, but it's really hard to get in, since they have such a long waiting list, plus in my case I have a lot of prerequisites that I would have to take, before being able to apply for the program... I also check PTEC but they do not have an evening program and I do work full time. Galen gives me that time flexibility I need when it comes to work while studing. It's also a very well respected school, I personally have met nurses where I currently work now that speak highly about their students.

I know it's expensive, but this is something that I really want to do, and want to do NOW.

As far as the interview, is pretty brief, questions like "why nursing?", "what kind of student you are", pretty basics stuff, what they are really looking at is passing the test and they look at your application to determinate if you are a good fit and you have the tools needed to enter this program.

The test, it was basics stuff, a little hard for me because I just had a week to get ready and I have been out of school for a while now.... the challenging to me was Science but I did pretty well on that and also on Math. Reading part, was not too good, cause I ran out of time and pretty much had to select them ramdonly at the end.

I took the test Thursday and got called Friday, stating they need my High School diploma to be able to get me approved.

I'm glad to see you have a few options..... if it comes to Galen, and you are worry about the drive, just think that everything in life requires sacrifices, and if it's something you really want, then go for it! I know it's going to be challenging for me, I have a 5 year old daughter and have to work full time, but hey!!! I can do this and so can you!!!

I will definitely keep you posted!!! Best luck to you in your persue for Nursing!!!

Piccolanurse.....Have you heard back yet? I'm sure you have if you were trying to get into the May program...How did the rest of the process go for you? I'm very excited to hear!!

Hello LynneMarie!

I got accepted into the program!!!:lol2: Today was my orientation and it was a really nice experience. My process was a little tedious, since I had to have my High School Diploma (Foreign country) evaluated again, because it was not done by one of the agencies they would accept, I had to jump some hoops , but I'm in!!!

I will be starting classes Monday! I can't wait! I still have to take care of my immunizations and physical, but I have a couple of weeks to have it submitted. Also I need to renew my CPR certification.

What about you, what did you end up doing??? I hope you're keeping the plan!!!

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be glad to assist you!!! :)

Hey Piccolanurse!!!!

Congrats!!! I'm so happy for you! This is a very exciting time I'm sure. I'm taking a test tomorrow for Erwin tech school, I do not want to go to that school anymore but figured since I had already signed up for the test I should just take it as practice. As soon as I'm done with this one I'm going to start studying for the one at Galen. I'm going to give them a call next week or so to sign up to take the test sometime soon. I'm hoping for the August class, but will keep my fingers crossed.

CPR certification. Hmm...I have never had a CPR class, do you think that is going to be bad for me? lol. I am very excited for you!! Study hard, have fun, and I hope your first week goes smoothly!!! Hope to hear from you soon.

I have a question for those attending Galen recently what is required for the physical and immunization portion? If I have my immunization records will that suffice? I just started on Monday, but with making sure I am paying close attention I neglected to ask today..If anyone knows exactly what needs to be done with those let me know..I seen some people getting theirs back today to have additional things submitted and I just want to make sure I submit it right the first time.

Thanks and good luck to those starting or thinking about going. I am in the LPN Day program which started May 16

Thanks

I looked at Galen about a year and a half ago and I was quite impressed. I wish I would have started the program then, because I would’ve been close to done by now! I’m going to take the PAX-PN at Galen tomorrow. I took the TEAS at Erwin and scored quite well, so I’m not worried about the PAX-PN. I’m *hoping* I can get into the August classes.

Good luck getting in...I am sure you can be in the August classes as of couple of weeks ago they still had quite a few spots left in day and evening program. I hadn't looked into them, but even with things I have read in this thread I think they are a strong school and I just started Monday and they are jumping right in, but also seem very helpful.

Keep us posted

Piccolanurse....

How was your first week? Would love to hear about it!
