Hello everyone! Is anyone currently attending Galen College of Nursing in St.Petesburg/Tampa Bay Area? If you aren't currently attending, but have in the past? I would love to here your feedback, too. I just wanted to know how you feel about the school and what your experience has been like. I will be taking my cpat at Galen tomorrow. I'm very excited and hopefully all goes well.

HI THERE! I am graduating from the Galen (St. Petersburg campus) LPN program May 8th. My name is Glenn. I LOVE GALEN! Listen to your instructors (especially when ***** says,"What's important now and what's important next". That's the key to being successfull. Time will go by in a FLASH! It seems like yesterday I was sitting in orientation and wondering,"should I realy do this?" Now I am starting the RN program in a couple of weeks! Galen is very structured and there truly no room for people who wish for it to be an "extension of highschool". You will love it! Study hard and apply yourself even if some of those around you are goofing off. Be a leader and you will do fine! Let me know if you need any other advice on upcoming classes. I have kept all of my study outlines for EVERY test. A lot of people used them to ensure that they would pass and they did. If you want them or if I can help just holler. I am the tall, blonde guy 38yrs old who always has a smile on my face!

Kudos to you!!:yeah:

I will be starting the LPN to RN Bridge there May 18th. There is an orientation there on May 5th, that I will gladly be there to learn more.

This will be my first time at Galen. I actually am moving to the area to attend the college due to the out-of-control waiting lists and Pre-reqs. So, its only 15 months of my life, I may as well get it over with.

Will you be there at orientation?

Were the books costly?

What kind of uniforms, and where can you purchase them?

Hey there! Yeah, I'll be there. I will probably be in my white uniform (you need to buy them online because they have a Galen Patch on them) because we have a final day of clinicals and we come come straight from the hospital to orientation. Hopefully, I'll have time to change into some shorts (please God!) Anyway, the books for the LPN weren't too bad but I heard the the books for RN are a bit pricey! We have to do what we have to do I guess. They say that the orientation is 1-5 but it usually runs shorter. I'm sure you will be welcomed into our group quickly. There are some good people (all ages) and we have made it fun. You (we) won't start clinicals til November so that will be nice. Where are you relocating from? I'll try to think of a way for you to know who I am so that you know someone right off the bat. I know it kind of sucks being in a strange room with people you don't know. I realy think that you are going to like it. :smokin:

Well hummm....

Most of my clothes are brown so I probably will be wearing a brown shirt with a white button up over it, and jeans. Long brown hair. I wear a small silver necklace with 2 hearts in a circle. I am African American by the way.

I hope I do like it, as I will be relocating this weekend to there. I am coming from near Ocala. There are so many waiting lists and stipulations here, that its next to impossible to get into an RN program.

I liked the way Galen treated me. I liked the way they were very warm and willing to show me things.

I feel its gonna be well worth the money.

I will likely be wearing a silver/grey t-shirt or a greel Izod with kahki shorts. I am 6-3, white, blonde hair, devastatingly handsome (well...o.k. maybe not :-)) I will definitely look for you. Again, my name is Glenn (most people know me). What's your name?

Hey Sugarpixel:

I am going to be taking the CPAT this coming Thursday, May 7th... I've being doing my research on Galen, came across this website and decided to join so I could get my questions answered/interact with other people who I bet have great things to say. Anyways, I attended an orientation session a couple weeks aga and a couple LPNs that were there spoke very well about Galen grads they've worked with :yeah:. They even mentioned that the reason why they were there/chose Galen to transition into RN was because of their interaction with both Galen LPNs and RNs, which to me meant a lot as I almost jumped off my seat when I saw the prices :coollook:. I wanted to ask how's it been since you got started last February. What's your experience so far? How do you like/dislike it? I want to get into the day/full time August class. Any info you could share would be gratly appreciated!!! Thanks a million!

Galen is great. I graduate with my LPN this week. I am actually giving a speech. It has been a great experience. Yes, EXPENSIVE but very structured and the staff is awesome. I will be starting my RN in a couple of weeks there. You will love it too.

Hello bucfan,

Thanks for taking the time to post a few words in response to my previous message :nuke:. I was kinda discouraged due to another thread on here, but I usually don't pay attention to only one side of the story. So far I have a great feeling Galen is the right school for me, and an excellent one overall. I can't wait to get started... Of course, I first need to get accepted... I just hope I do!

BTW, What's the male/female students ratio there? Are there a lot of guys in the nursing programs? Just curious, since I know we are a minority when it comes to this field/career/profession.

Thanks again!

Regards,

Y.

What have you heard that's discouraging? There's a few of us guys around at Galen. There's 5 of us in my Graduating class. We're in HIGH demand which is a good thing. :smokin: You will get accepted. Are you pursuing your LPN? If so I can hook you up with what you need to know. I did very well. Just got a 90 on my Adult 4 final! I am not going to lie, it's hard. Just listen to what the faculty says about studying and do the work and you will do fine. Some people still find time to have a life outside of school. As for me, when I wasn't playing with my son I was studying especially on the weekends. You will do fine. You will probably speak with **** in admissions. She's great! So is ***** (cool guy!) My name is Glenn. Drop the name if you want. I seem to know everyone there now and they know me.

Glenn,

Thanks again for taking the time to reply... I just read a few postings where people were saying horrible things about the faculty and stuff like that, but as I said before, I never listen to just one side of the story. And YES, I am going for my LPN first, but plan to bridge to RN right away, so any advice on how to succeed is highly welcome & appreciated. I already met ***** and I thought she was great, thanks to my conversation with her I left convinced that Galen should be at the top of my list. So, we guys are in HIGH demand in the Nursing field? Good to know!

I just got back from my financial meeting with Nancy, I will be starting the August Day LPN classes. I am so excited and scared, heck I havent been to school in over 20 years. Any advice would help!!! Costs?? Uniforms?? Books?? Studying?? at this point I am hoping to move to the RN after LPN...
