  1. I truly appreciate you taking your time to post the advice. Thanks.
  2. What have you heard that's discouraging? There's a few of us guys around at Galen. There's 5 of us in my Graduating class. We're in HIGH demand which is a good thing. You will get accepted. Are you pursuing your LPN? If so I can hook you up with what you need to know. I did very well. Just got a 90 on my Adult 4 final! I am not going to lie, it's hard. Just listen to what the faculty says about studying and do the work and you will do fine. Some people still find time to have a life outside of school. As for me, when I wasn't playing with my son I was studying especially on the weekends. You will do fine. You will probably speak with **** in admissions. She's great! So is ***** (cool guy!) My name is Glenn. Drop the name if you want. I seem to know everyone there now and they know me.
  3. Galen is great. I graduate with my LPN this week. I am actually giving a speech. It has been a great experience. Yes, EXPENSIVE but very structured and the staff is awesome. I will be starting my RN in a couple of weeks there. You will love it too.
  4. I will likely be wearing a silver/grey t-shirt or a greel Izod with kahki shorts. I am 6-3, white, blonde hair, devastatingly handsome (well...o.k. maybe not :-)) I will definitely look for you. Again, my name is Glenn (most people know me). What's your name?
  5. Hey there! Yeah, I'll be there. I will probably be in my white uniform (you need to buy them online because they have a Galen Patch on them) because we have a final day of clinicals and we come come straight from the hospital to orientation. Hopefully, I'll have time to change into some shorts (please God!) Anyway, the books for the LPN weren't too bad but I heard the the books for RN are a bit pricey! We have to do what we have to do I guess. They say that the orientation is 1-5 but it usually runs shorter. I'm sure you will be welcomed into our group quickly. There are some good people (all ages) and we have made it fun. You (we) won't start clinicals til November so that will be nice. Where are you relocating from? I'll try to think of a way for you to know who I am so that you know someone right off the bat. I know it kind of sucks being in a strange room with people you don't know. I realy think that you are going to like it.
  6. HI THERE! I am graduating from the Galen (St. Petersburg campus) LPN program May 8th. My name is Glenn. I LOVE GALEN! Listen to your instructors (especially when ***** says,"What's important now and what's important next". That's the key to being successfull. Time will go by in a FLASH! It seems like yesterday I was sitting in orientation and wondering,"should I realy do this?" Now I am starting the RN program in a couple of weeks! Galen is very structured and there truly no room for people who wish for it to be an "extension of highschool". You will love it! Study hard and apply yourself even if some of those around you are goofing off. Be a leader and you will do fine! Let me know if you need any other advice on upcoming classes. I have kept all of my study outlines for EVERY test. A lot of people used them to ensure that they would pass and they did. If you want them or if I can help just holler. I am the tall, blonde guy 38yrs old who always has a smile on my face!
  7. I am a 38 year old (soon to be single...sucks) dad who 1 year ago left a high paying but unstable career in the financial/banking world. I graduate May 8th near the top of my class with my LPN. I have trusted the previous advice I received here and will continue on through with my RN. (I was accepted and classes start in a couple of weeks!) So here's my profile, Male 38 yrs old, BA in Business, and 13 years of STRONG HR and MANAGERIAL experience. After I graduate, what is the best way for me to maximize my income. I don't mind working but need at least 2 days off/week. I would prefer not to work on Sat/Sun so I could spend it with my 3 year old "minnie me". Naturally, if I have to I will. I need some pro's who have been where I am now who can give me some guidance. What fields to look at and ways to make extra $$. I truly appreciate the thought and concern I have received in the past from this board. *ALSO, going into hospital administration isn't out of the question. Again, THANKS! Also, will my past experience and degree influence my starting pay. I am in Tampa, Fl. What should I reasonabley expect per hour? **I AM LOOKING FOR ADVICE AFTER I GET MY RN approx 15 months from today** THANKS!
  8. I have a bachelors in business. I am just missing A&P 1 & 2 for prerequisites. I would like to work (though I heard it's not feasible) while I get my degree. Ultimately, I want to be an RN. What is the best way to accomplish this financially? Also, I have read a lot on these boards, do nurses ever get breaks? Thanks. Still leaning towards LPN then bridge while working. What would you do.
  9. Thanks so much for the advice. I will look into the associates RN. That along with my Bachelors in Business may help me move towards management? Everyone says it's so hectic. Do you get any breaks? Time to catch your breath? What type of paperwork is there. (sounds like a lot). Again thank you so much for all of you advice and inspiration.
  10. Thanks so much for your reply. I definitely do want to end up with an RN. I guess I just don't want to commit to such a long program without knowing if this is the right path for me. I really want to shadow a nurse to see what their days are like. Do you know if this is possible? There are so many different programs - LPN, RN, BSN - what's the difference. Why RN over LPN? I really appreciate any insight or advice you can give!
  11. I have been in the call center management business for 14 years and want to do something that has real value. I want to feel like I did something worth while at the end of the day. My current situation is: married w/ beautiful wife and 2 great kids and I am 37 yrs old. I have a BA in business administration and I am accustomed to making approximately 45k/year here in Tampa, Fl. I want to make sure that this is the right career move for me. I have a strong aptitude for medicine and I am great with people. My plan is to attend school to get my LPN then a bridge to RN. Can anyone please tell me some of the best things about being a nurse and some of the worst. How did you know it was right for you? Is there a way that I can shadow an LPN to see what a day in the life of an LPN is like? Should I be concerned entering a field where 95% is female? I would greatly appreciate any info you can give. If you recommend a school please let me know. Thank you.
