Hi Ladies~
I'm currently in classes at FCCJ. Finishing my pre-req's then plan to apply to the program in Dec. Nice to finally other FCCJ classmates here. Any words of wisdom, also which campus are you both with.

I'm applying for the spring term if I can get through my summer Microbiology course. It's not easy to take in 8weeks. I have Dr. Yurko at the south campus. I'm wondering what the scoring is like for the NAT. I wonder what the average scoring looks like. I still need to take the test. My grades are good, but I'm nervous about my general education knowledge. Any ideas?
wow, 8 week micro... i can imagine it being tough! how is dr. yurko? i had dr. fair and she's an excellent, excellent instructor. the labs were a lot of fun!
as far as NAT scoring goes... well, they give you a graphical print out of your scores. this is what it says on the sheet i was given that explains scores:
testing results are reported in two ways, as raw scores and as percentile ranks. each raw score represents the number of questions answered correctly in one particular part of the examination.
percentile rank comes from the concept of percent; the percentile rank is used to describe the relative standing of an individual with respect to other individuals.
so, i was in the 96th percentile for the academic (verbal, arithmetic, non-verbal) portion, meaning my score is better than the scores of 96% of the people who have taken the NAT, but not better than 4%.
average scoring would be in the "median" percentiles... so from the 40th percentile onto 60th. if your percentile is lower than 40, you're in the low average/below average/low... etc. if it's over 60 you're in the high average, high, very high... etc.
hope this helps.
Wow! You scored really well. I have done well in my classes up until about now. I should have paid closer attention to the warnings about Dr. Yurko on rateyourprofessor.com. I couldn't wait to take micro with Dr. Fair in the Spring. I just had her for Chemistry and think she is awesome. I guess I was trying to figure out what kind of score (NAT) that I would need to get me into the program. I see the grades are worth 120 points and the NAT is worth 120 points as well. I think I may be worrying to much and just need to go take the darn test. Thanks for the explanation on the scoring.

I am applying for FCCJ fall term 2007 as well. My name is Jessica and I have a myspace www.myspace.com/jquezadas4 . Hope to meet some of you VERY soon!
I have had the application filled out and just waiting on me to finish everything except micro for a few months. Since I have turnned the application in I have found myself practically sitting at the mailbox waiting, with the eyes of a hawk, on a letter. I am not sitting too low or too high either (I think)> 182.96 without micro. I am in Micro this summer. I have another student in my Micro class that has applied for fall as well- he and I are constantly checking with each
other to see if the other has any news.
I know "The Lady at The Front Desk" said 8 weeks after June 1st, but I am hoping they let us know sooner versus later so I know what to do with a semester to waste if I dont get in this semester. I am debating possible back-up majors ( I would be transfering to UNF), any suggestions?
Either way I am glad to see others here that have applied and are in the same boat as I am. Good luck to all. PS: I have read older posts and I am noticing a July 6-7-8th date for replies!

Hi Jessica~
I'm finishing taking my pre-req's and plan to apply to the program in Dec. I'm doing A & P I, Algebra and Human Growth and Development online and will finish my other classes between the North and Nassau center. I'm going to be in the same boat as everyone else, waiting and wondering once I apply. How did you do on the entrance exam? Did you find the ARCO book helpful in studying?
I took the exam on my own at first.. only scored so so... then I found the arco book.. it only boosted my score 10 points... the book is like a prep book for the SAT/ACT if you can do whats in the book.. you will probabaly do well on the exam. All I really remember about my scores is that all of them were in the average range.. one or two above average.
I bought the ARCO book, so now with the classes underway and my mind refreshed I'm going to start studying it and get the test scheduled.
JQuezadaS4- Can I ask you what your number calculates to be(not percentage) for the NAT. I think I will probably be in the same position with my testing. Average or somewhere around there. I'm just trying to get an idea of what that will give me as a total score to get into the program. I have 108-111 points for grades and am trying to figure out what an average NAT number looks like. Appreciate any help. : )
there is no "average" NAT number... not that i know of, anyway. those statistics aren't given on the explanatory sheet for the NAT.
on the nursing admissions sheet, which i am sure you have (if not, well then you really need to get it), they did give an "example" of PBS-NAT scores, so i think this is what they want you to at least aim for, points-wise, on each section:
academic aptitude - 60
reading comprehension - 30
natural science - 55
you have to set a points goal for yourself, not base it on the "average" of the NAT. if you know you need X amount of points to get into the program, then aim for that. that is what i did.
