Anyone excel. grads having problems in Florida?

I am thinking of going through the LPN- RN with excelsior because it seems faster than waiting another year or 2 to get into the local bridge track at one of the CC's. Has anyone had any problems with Florida accepting Excel.? And if you are committed to getting through ASAP, how long do you think it would take to get from start to Cpne with Excelsior? I already have my prereqs.

Thanks much!

q: can i apply for a nursing license in florida if i graduated from regents (excelsior) college?

a: if you were a licensed practical nurses prior to entering regents (excelsior) college and then graduate with an rn degree, may apply for licensure by examination in florida. non-lpns may apply only if they have passed the nclex and have an active license in another state.

and everyone has their own pace of doing the exams. it took me about a year to get all my exams done but could have been done sooner if i didn't stop for a few months. i started feb 2008 and i am taking my cpne in may.

I completely agree everyone has their own pace. I started in June 2008 and tooke the CPNE Feb 2009. I would have been done several months sooner but waited to see what the GA BON was going to do before spending $1900 plus travel on the CPNE. I was actually eligible 3 months before I applied.

I'm in Florida panhandle! I haven't come across any problems. I have completed two tests in the two months that I have been enrolled and I have two test scheduled for the end of the month. My pace is ASAP! I have a friend from all nurses that has been a great support, and she just passed the CPNE today! She'll send me some great info. later. With excelsior you just have to have your LPN licensure and then for you to take the boards you have to have your diploma from EC that's it. No other problems!

Good luck with your decision and your pursuit!

I just graduated from Excelsior (also in FL) and already applied. I contacted the BON and they said I should have my ATT shortly. You must be a LPN prior to enrolling.

Oh and I did the program including the CPNE wait time in less than a year.

I am an RN graduate from Excelsior in Florida, and have had no prob in Fl. I got hired onto a Magnet Hospital on a GI floor in Clearwater. Excelsior changed my life! It's a great program. It took me a year an half. If you have any ?'s let me know?

I have been tossing around the idea of going through Excelsior or not. I only have about 4 prereqs for the RN bridge program, and I can't decide to sit and wait or start the distant learning. I am scared to death of the weekend clinicals. I have a sit down nursing job (workers comp) so I dont' get to use my nursing skills.

Hi everyone!

I just moved to FL from WV in Oct. 2009. Doing the EC program also. I called the FL BON on this. There seems to be a problem at this time for us sitting for the boards due to us doing the EC program. The BON nursing told me they are meeting the first and second week of February to decide on a ruling if the BON will accept EC grads to sit for NCLEX. GA has already put a ruling in place any Grads of EC has to do and addition 350 hours of Clinicals etc. It is very long and involved on what EC grads have to do to get their license in GA.

According to FL BON on issue has to do with the clinicals. Even if you are an LPN proir to enrolling in EC they are holding and not letting us sit for the Boards when completeing EC program. I am going to keep a close eye on the website for FL BON for any info or updates. I just spoke with them on Jan 25, 2010. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
