Hi guys I was wondering if anyone every thought about going into the surgical tech. program or any other programs while waiting to get accepted into the nursing program. I work at a hosp. that has a 1 year surgical tech program. I will submit my application to the nursing program in January, so i should be able to start in August. I was just thinking about the surgical tech program just as a backup just in case i didn't get in. Give me your thoughts.

I did the CNA program while waiting for my letter because it was short and would help towards the nursing program. I don't know about the 1 yr commitment though...as soon as you get into that program the nursing is gonna come a calling!
I did think about this program over nursing but found out that you can be a nurse and do the same thing because they often hire nurses to do the job anyway so since nursing has broader and many roads I chose that over just knowing the surgical part. There are alos a lot more nursing jobs available than surg tech jobs. Things to think about!

i finished 1 year of a 2 year surgical tech program at a local community college, i quit after only 1 year so i could focus on getting into nursing school. i enjoyed the program but it lacked the patient care aspect that i've come to enjoy working in the medical field for 5+ years. also as itsmyturn said there are so many more fields for a rn to go into then a st. but if you have more questions please feel free to message me, i got a ton of great or experience in that 1 year.
