Hi, I am starting NS this fall, and due to very heavy periods, my doctor is recommending endometrial ablation. Has anyone had recent experience with this procedure? The kind I would have is called NovaSure. There are some posts concerning this, but they are more than 5 years old, so I thought I would see if anyone has anything new to add, as this procedure has come along way in 5 years, I believe. BTW, I am 45 years old, done having children etc.
Did it stop your periods completely and did they stay stopped? How was the recovery time?
Thanks for any info!
Val
It sounds like you have your mind made up, but I always suggest women try Mirena before moving on to more invasive procedures.
thanks, my doctor did give me a pamphlet on it as one option. I didn't give it a huge amount of consideration though. What are your thoughts? I am now scheduled for Aug. 30. I appreciate the input.
Around 90% of women who have Mirena find that their periods get much lighter, and about half of women don't get periods for at least part of the time they have it (my own personal experience is that I got no period for about a year and a half, and the rest of the time, I went from 8-day heavy periods - soaking a super tampon every 2-3 hours - to 2-3 days of light spotting that was managed through a panty liner).
I would certainly recommend for any woman who has menorrhagia and is considering ablation and/or hysterectomy, to first consider the Mirena, which is far less invasive.
