Anyone else taking Legal/Ethics Nursing class?

I may be the lone oldtimer taking the legal/ethics nursing class that is not married to transitions. Anyone else in that class this quarter?

Specializes in Critical Care, ER, Post-Op Surgery.

Yes, I agree delatroxxy, all you have to do is follow the rubric. I took this class with 2 other classes and did fine, no problems. Just wasn't thrilled with the group discussion boards.

This class is a breeze...just find it a pain to do "group" discussion board. Not to my liking at all.

I am taking this class with cultural diversity, turns out to be the easiest classes to take together!

Yeah I though the group discussions were a nuisance. Everybody has a different schedule and I felt always really pressed to adhere to other people's schedule with these group posts. I managed to get out of being group leader the whole class because people always volunteered before me. I mean, if I didn't HAVE to do it...

I volunteered to be group leader - but the others in my group would have had to adhere to MY schedule ... and they didn't want tol ... I tried

My group got zapped big time for our first group discussion, the group leader had typos, mispells, grammar errors and APA formatting was a nightmare. Did not run it by the rest of us and posted a day and a half early. I am group leader this time around so I can have more control over my grade! I sent the TA my two cents on this exercise in frustration.

EmJean…Here is a suggestion of what my group did when I took the class.

Starting week 1 when we learned about our group, 3 of us (the first 3 posters in the group) decided that everyone would take a part. So say I had pt 1, another had part 2, etc. The person who did not get a part was responsible for putting all of the parts together. Someone always had a "free" week. In our group it tended to be the same person…LOL We agreed on a day (say WED) that EVERYONE had to have their parts posted. We would each read each others posted part and provide input. Then once all of the input was gathered, the person would put together the complete assignment. THEN before posting the FINAL copy, they would post it for the group to see, make revisions, etc. There were was 1 slacker in my group, but the group as a whole didn't care. I wanted to be in control of my group, so I either volunteered to put it all together or I took a big chunk of the assignment. My groups grade was always a high A on discussions, and I made an A in the class, so I'd say our method worked.

God luck!!!

We only have one week left for group discussion. The first week was a disaster. That is why I took charge this week. I may receive my first B in this stupid class. The TA has glowing remarks for my participation...but, I received a very low grade with this group. We have two slackers and one eager beaver who made an error and submitted early without our consultation.

Anyway...thanks for the advice. What is it like to be done???? I am so envious of you.

Ditto! Maybe we were in the same group. I know we actually had a couple of slackers, which was frustrating. I just kept my nose to the grindstone and told myself this is only 5 weeks!

I should clarify...Deltaroxxy...what is it like to be graduated and completely done with school now?? I envy you that you have graduated!

It is COMPLETE and UTTER bliss…I just signed up for 2 photography classes, applied for 2 nursing jobs in my area, and am going to bed by 11pm. This will be you soon :)

Sounds great. BTW: Legal is now my least favorite class. My group received a 70% on the first group posting. I ran the second group posting and had half a point taken off for a 95%...worked my buns off with no real help from my "teammates." So, that now brings me up to 89.05%. I am very angry about this group grade thing. The 'group' does not pay my tuition. I have straight A's and will likely end up with a B. There is no way to bring it up even if we get 100% which is highly unlikely considering someone else is taking the lead for 3rd group discussion. Also, this TA gave me all points for APA. She is actually reading and grading the CONTENT of the posts. Luckily, I can take pride in the work I have contributed...but, punished miserably that first week.

I have decided to vent here and now, then not ruminate and just move on.

Yeah the group thing really sucks when you are in a bad group. I tihnk only the A obsessed folks hang out on this forum. Think most people I've met in the program just want to pass and move on to the next class. Just try to provide a lot of input in the next discussion. Class will be over soon!!

Once again the lead of the group has to be prodded to submit their work. I have volunteered to be lead again but the TA will not let us repeat.

Other groups in our class have NO lead at all and it is Thursday, final discussion post due tomorrow at midnight.

Not a hard class...just difficult to do group work when group does not cooperate.
